The car ride was mostly silent. Dylan looked over at me a few times as if he was going to say something, but never did he speak. There was tension in the air and it felt like he was trying to be mad at me. I hated the silence so I broke it by saying "I could've called Mary, you didn't have to drop me off if you're mad."
"Why would I be mad. I am just a little frustrated with your behavior and your temper, but I can get used to it" he said focusing on the road.
"Oh" I say quietly. "Why did you look for me? Like really. I want to know the real reason not some little coverup sob story."
He sighed and said "Because I had a feeling you would get in trouble. When you were arguing with Scarlett I saw that man watching you. I knew he was either a creep or someone who was looking for you. Look, I know you aren't telling us the full story about you, so I have nothing stopping me from thinking you are important in the U.S. That means you could have people after you. I noticed that the run time of the movie was an hour and a half so after that time had passed I assumed his showing was done. I left our showing room and saw that I was correct. The man was walking out. I followed him and that's when I saw him trying to get to you. Sorry, it took me so long to do something, I had to stay far behind him and pretend I wasn't on to him. That's when I bumped into Max outside."
"Max" I sighed. "Well thank you for looking out for me. It means a lot."
"Of course. Also maybe you should give Max a chance. He may seem bad, but he isn't really. He just has a weird way of conveying emotion. Adyline seems to finally understand him now too. They had lots of issues in the beginning." as Dylan said this his voice lowered.
That intrigued me so I decided to ask more. "What do you mean 'had issues'."
Dylan looked at me for a second, but then returned his gaze back ahead. "Adyline was the one who approached Max 7 months ago. He pushed her away almost every time, but somehow she broke down his wall. That's when they started dating six months ago. It is almost as if she forced her way into a relationship with him. She is too good for him and he knows it. Max just goes along with their relationship because he knows how much effort she put into it. His heart doesn't belong to her. That's if he even has one. She definitely doesn't love him the way she loved me. That's for sure."
My mouth dropped. What did he just say? Did Adyline really just switch brothers? I mean they are both attractive, but why would she go from Dylan to Max? Yes, Max was intriguing, but wasn't just the one good enough? Dylan seemed a bit sad, but for some reason, I accidentally let out a laugh. I then covered it up with saying "Oh god. That must be awkward. She still acts so naturally around you so I am sure it wasn't that bad?"
"I actually broke up with her. I saw her growing interest in Max. Sometimes I think it was all a plan from the beginning. To use me to get closer to Max. I still respect her so much for some reason. I thought my feelings for her were actually coming back until you showed up. You are her other half and exactly what I thought she was. Your attitude, your behavior, your smile. Those are all things she can't match and they make you so special. This might come off as weird, but you really saved me from falling for my ex. I just don't know if falling for you is going to keep me from being crushed. I know your attitude." he laughed.
I was silent for a moment. Dylan had just confessed his feelings for me. I also felt really bad for him. Adyline wasn't as perfect as I thought she was. Dylan could be lying to me, but I believed him. I wasn't sure what to say though. I would feel bad for friendzoning him. "Fuck it," I thought "I am gonna give him a chance."
"Why don't you take me out tomorrow" I asked. "I am willing to take you up on that offer from the night I met you. Besides tomorrow I am free."
Dylan smiled and said "That would be perfect. I have the best surprise for you."
As he said this the Walsh house pulled into view. Dylan stopped the car in front of the house before getting out to escort me to the door. I hugged him goodbye and closed the door behind me.
