I awoke to the sound of voices whispering in my room.
"Doctor there's a mistake...there is no way she wants to see me. And I am not so sure I can talk to her either. I think we both have agreed to give up." said one voice.
"Well, that's not what she said earlier. Besides, she can't remember any events from the past 6 months according to our tests." responded another voice.
"Six months?!" the first voice exclaimed. "She's only been here for a couple of months. Let alone six! This means she doesn't know anything! She's completely unaware!"
"Yes..that's the consensus" the doctor's voice mumbled. "However it doesn't seem permanent. She could easily regain her memory at any time. You could help with that. Just don't push it. It might scare her since as of right now she doesn't know you."
There was a moment of silence. A voice then sighed and said "It's best that way. It's best if she doesn't know me...I am going to call Adyline. Her..her sister. She can take care of this. I want no part in what happens next. We are going our separate ways, once and for all.
"Ok, whatever you choose. I just need someone here with her. You can leave once Adyline arrives. I am going to go update her chart." Then I heard footsteps exit the room. The door shut. The doctor had left. Now it was just me and this unknown man.
His set of footsteps came closer to me. I felt a hand brush my face and then move my hair away from my eyes. The voice whispered "Goodbye Tsunami. I never wanted it to end this way, but we're too different. It would be selfish of me to keep you around."
I began opening my eyes. They met with a set of beautiful blue ones. They were mesmerizing. The pain left my body when I saw them. I felt full and complete. His presence made me feel warm and fuzzy. It felt familiar...
However, the man saw me beginning to gain consciousness and as I was about to speak he hurried out of the room. Leaving me empty. Emptier than I felt before.
Suddenly tears rolled down my face. Something broke when he left. Yet I didn't know him. Or at least remember him. He felt so familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. Either way, his effect on me was abundant. Somehow I knew him. We had a past. We had something. Something that was still there. Something amazing, I could feel it. The only issue was from his words I could tell he was hurting. He was just as broken as me. And based on his behavior I had hurt him. He was gone. He had left me. Left me with questions and no answers. Now I needed to make it my objective to find him. He was the key to my recovery.
As I was deep in thought the door flew open. A pretty girl with dark hair rushed towards me. "Oh my god Zara! I am so sorry! Ever since my dad died things have been hard. I forgot about my main job. My job to protect you! This is all my fault."
I looked at her blankly, trying to process her words. "Um...hi...I um have memory loss from the injury..could you please...remind me who you are?"
She looked shocked. Her face then shrunk. She looked sad. "Um yeah of course. The.. doctor told me. I'm sorry...I was just hoping seeing me would bring your memory back. It turns out...it didn't."
I felt terrible. I really wished that it would have worked, but this girl was a stranger to me. As was everything else. I knew nothing.
"My name is Adyline Walsh. I am your 'sister'. You are Sierra Morgan, but here in the U.K you go by Zara Walsh. You attend Oxford University as a political science major. The reason for the whole identity change is because of your father. He..he was after you and the money your mother left you. Long story short he killed your mom who truly loved you. She couldn't show it though. I promise... she loved you. You also may not remember this but you have gone on a few missions...a lot of stuff has happened. In the end, you are trying to escape your father and land him in jail for his crimes. He is a bad man. You are living with me and my mother for now and pretending that we are your family. My..my..our.. father recently passed. The rest is up to you to remember. I'm sure when you get your memory back it will be much easier. I don't want to overload you with information right away. We can ease into it."
I quietly processed what she said. Surprisingly small details began to come back to me. Not the full story though. What she said sounded familiar. "Thanks...Adyline" I stuttered. "I am starting to sort of remember some things. Not much...but it's progress. What you said doesn't sound too crazy. If this was my first time hearing it I would have definitely gone into shock."
We both laughed and the doctor walked back in.
"I'm glad to see that there's some bonding going on. That's great for memory recovery. You will do just fine. On the other hand, we are going to start fixing you up Zara. You should be set to go home tomorrow morning."
The doctor then began to pull on his gloves while the nurse walked in to prep the supplies. Adyline exited and went back to the waiting room.
