Her mom died of childbirth after her little sister was born, and her dad was an abusive drunk who beat Laura after her mom died but never her little sister. And when she was 13 and her little sister was 11, they went out to get groceries but then they were jumped by socs. As they were jumped, these soc boys, grabbed Laura, and held her down while she was trying to fight her way out, and she told her sister to run but she didn't listen. Her sister then tried to pull one of them off of Laura but in the process, she was pushed away on to the street and she died by being ran over. The soc boys heard Laura's screaming and looked to see what happened to her sister, and they immediately made a run for it. Laura cradled her sister in her arms, crying, sobbing, and wailing and shortly after, the police came and took Laura away to the station. Laura told them everything she could remember but they still thought she had something to do with her sister's death, even though they found the driver and put him in prison. The police put her in Juvenile detention for a year and rumor's started spreading about her back home. After a year in Juvie, her dad died and she had no one when she got out even though she hated her dad's guts, he was still her father. But one of her cellmates set Laura up with a friend of hers. After she got out, she got a ride and met up with her cellmates friend Mutt and his dad took her in and gave her a home. After two years of living with them, they taught her how to fight, how to use a switchblade and taught her how to ride a horse. And Laura went back to school, even though she kept her distance and everyone was afraid of her. And she also met Johnny by saving his life from socs who were pushing him around in an alley, she also walked him to pony boy's house after. And for some reason they started to like having her around and Johnny reminded her of her sister.

His dad works at a gas station while Mutt works on fixing motorcycles and cars with Laura's help (she works there), he loves Laura like a sister and will do anything to protect her along with his girlfriend. He also is very close friends with Darry, soda pop, and the rest of the gang.
