When her dad died, he was in an accident when she was away in the military. She was there for his funeral, but shortly after she went back to her base in Iraq. One day, she went on a mission with her team to a small village away from base, but during their drive. They were ambushed and her team got blown up but she survived and got taken by her ambushers who were members of Hydra. During her time with them the military thought her and her team was dead so they wrote her and her team off as terminated while in the hydra base, they tortured and injected her with the serum that had is side affects on her, including the loss of her sight. Then they trained and brainwashed her to be their perfect soldier. But she fought the brainwashing and killed all the Hydra members in the base and escaped to civilization. She went to a friend's place in Minnesota and stayed there training, traveling and killing people associating in Hydra or any criminal business.

When it was time to go back to the program, she fought to stay with her sisters but it wasn't enough. During her training, she did everything perfect and was the most feared widow in the red room. One day, a member of Hydra came to Dreykov to ask for a widow. When Dreykov showed the Hydra member the widows, he chose Aleksandra and she was traded for a very good price. After Aleksandra joined Hydra, they trained her to the extreme until her bones broke. They brainwashed her, and sent her on missions, sometimes with the Winter soldier. When Hydra got shut down and the members scattered, Aleksandra was finally free to think for herself, but she knew it wouldn't last long, not as long as there were members of Hydra and people like Dreykov who sought out control of innocents. So she hunted them down, one by one, making them feel the same pain they inflicted on her every single day.
