Then one day, strigoi infiltrated the Salvador home and killed half of her house, her mother along with them, who died protecting Arania. Her father soon after, fell into depression and despair, then gave Arania to his brother Giovanni and made him promise to take care of his daughter and turn her when she's old enough to rule their house. After that, he burned himself alive during the day so he could be with Katarina. So Giovanni watched his niece and took care of her as she trained with other Dhampirs and he rebuilt his house from the destruction from the strigoi. When she was old enough, Giovanni turned her due to his brothers wishes and she became moroi and her uncle taught her everything she needed to know and they even traveled to st. Vladimir's to help with the political situation regarding the queen's heir, where Arania met Dimitri.
