"HC, how is she doing?" Seth asks as HC passes him in the hallway. It's been about 3 weeks since they got Dark back home. She barely ate, she stayed in bed all day yet was still sleep deprived, she didn't seem to fully comprehend anything that happened, she didn't talk or respond even to Majung. It was frightening for the first week, but by the second she was walking around her room and would occasionally venture out to get something to eat. It was the third week since her return and she ate with the other regularly. However, she still didn't talk that much, occasionally giving her friends a quiet yet strained hello. It wasn't her being rude, they predicted it was just that her voice and social skills were rusty after all the Space Pirates never wanted her to use them.
"She seems okay, she's not back to her usual self though. And," HC pauses and her voice breaks a little, "I'm really worried that she won't be the same after this. That she won't be the Dark that we all know... I just wish that this never happened, you know?"
"She's your friend, she'll always be your friend and I know you're scared that she's broken or that she's different. She's not, she doesn't break that easily." Seth looks behind HC to see Sugar approaching, she gives HC a good natured pat on the shoulder and leaves them alone.
My room was only lit by the sunlight that came in from three windows. The fourth window in my room was constantly closed because light would constantly drift into it when I tried to sleep. I stood in front of the window farthest from my bed that gave a view of the street below. There was a wind that rustled through the branches of the trees around the house, I focused in on that sound, trying to quiet the noises in my head. Ever since I returned, the Black Cosmo Stone continued to be quiet and instead of the Black Cosmo Stone's voice, there was screeching. The screeching sounded like myself during those times in the training room, when my body was so close to death yet the world would not reward me with that fate, instead the training would continue and would I. Yet the screeching was not just my own, but also those poor dinosaurs that I had harmed, I could hear them screeching and I could hear my weapons slicing through the air. If it wasn't the screeching, then I could see the violent scenes unfold in reality and slumber. I was trying to fix myself, don't get me wrong. But sometimes I would just lay in bed quietly, drowning in screechs and my past wrongdoings. Perhaps that's why I never heard the knocking.
"Dark, the door," Majung says quietly as to not startle me. I turn to him, my body still illuminated by light blue light and I nod in response. It takes me a few seconds to reach the door, my limbs move slower than they used to, I open it. HC and Sugar stand in the doorway giving me a smile. I slide to the side as an invite in and they walk through the door and sit down on the floor next to my bed.
"Hey, we thought we'd stay here for a bit and give you some company." Sugar pauses, "Got any of your odd and random thoughts for us?"
"Perhaps about yoga for pregnant women on a plane, or grass that is a masochist." HC prompts.
"There is yoga for pregnant women on those airplane brochures, I swear" there's an evident rasp in my voice.
"It's a safety procedure, not yoga." Sugar counters, shaking her head at HC for bringing it up.
"It can be both," I retort and we continue to talk for a bit before I start struggling to understand what they were saying, the screeches volume increased and my voice rasped more. They bid me farewell and left holding each other's hands. After that, I felt a little better. Like I could face my past wrongdoings and the world... Maybe I could find purpose.
