MEDUSA'S DEAD SOLDIER.

1774, SEPTEMBER 26th MONDAY 11:20am.

Medusa stormed down the hall as she glared at the two soldiers before her.

"What do you mean STEWARD'S DEAD?! He was an elite soldier! AN ELITE! He could withstand ten tons of physical force."

"W-We found him dead in his cell," one soldier said.

"WHERE'S THE SECURITY FEED?!"

"I'm on it Madam President!" The other soldier said.

"One other detail, when we went into Steward's cell... There was a slight smell of rotting meat." The first soldier said.

Medusa forced herself to take a deep breath.

"I'll keep that noted... Thank you." Medusa said.

They went into her office and pulled out a laptop. After a few moments, a video began to play. In it Steward, the soldier who was afraid of the dark, was seen in a straitjacket; placed inside a padded cell. The room was flooded with florescent light on each wall and the timestamp of the video showed it was two am. Suddenly Steward started to freak out, yelling and screaming when nothing was there.

"NO! I escaped! Leave me alone! G-GO AWAY!" Steward screamed, "Stay back! STAY BACK! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!"

Soon his scream turned into gibberish as the lights flickered off. They stayed that way for only a split second, but the very moment they came back on Steward's neck was completely twisted around.

"Rewind it." Medusa said.

They did so.

"Pause." She said, "Now play it frame by frame."

The video played back very slowly, in the midst of the lights flickering was a black blur; vaguely humanoid.

"PAUSE IT!" She shouted.

The soldier did so... The time was at 2:07 AM at 54 seconds and 33 milliseconds. Medusa leaned in closer to inspect this blur. Its shifting was subtle, as if it turned towards her —Medusa spun to her assistant.

"I told you to pause it."

"I did!"

When she turned back, the black blur was gone. The timestamp was still the same; 2:07 AM at 54 seconds and 33 milliseconds.

"... In the world?" Medusa muttered, "Do you know what happened?"

"No Ma'm."

"Take the recording and try playing it on a different monitor. Let me know if that blur appears again."

"Yes Ma'm."

The two soldiers saluted and left.

"... It was probably a glitch or something." She mumbled to herself.

As she went to close the door, the laptop behind her continue to display the paused video. When she turned, for a split second she could have sworn some form of deformed face appeared on the monitor... When she checked again, it was still the same recording. Frozen at 54 seconds and 33 milliseconds.
