BOOTS VS THE DAWN.
1774, OCTOBER 29th SATURDAY 4:30 am.
The two mountain halves slam into each other – a cascade of rocks thundered down the mountain range; the town filled with dust. Dia raises the planet lance, now bent at a ninety-degree angle to form a scythe.
"Sharp, isn't it?" She grins. "Perfect for what I need it to do."
Boots got into a defensive stance – Dia raised the scythe to her neck.
"Say goodbye to Noche!"
His eyes widened, his guts went cold – adrenaline took over, he charged forward.
"Not again," Boots thought.
Dia grinned, the scythe moved, Boot's eyes widened and he ducked. Hairs flew off the top of his head as the blade missed his neck by inches. A blur moved towards his stomach, he created a shield of wind, but the impact sent him flying regardless.
Boots grit his teeth, pulled a backflip, and feet grinded on ground as the momentum carried him backward. He slowed to a stop near the screaming mother and child from earlier – Dia landed a few feet before him.
"Noche might not remember – but I do... I have all her memories,"
Dia's eyes flickered to the terrified parent and child. The mom wrapped her arms around the little girl and pulled her away from the tar monster.
"Look at that! Isn't it funny? A mother protecting her daughter," Dia laughed. "It's just like when Noche was a little kid... Before DeathTech took everything away from her."
Dia chuckled, her head lowered, and a sinister laugh reverberated throughout Boot's bones.
"Evil begets evil... Pain begets pain... Hate begets hate," she rose her head with a grin. "Edward will pay... Noche will force him to experience the same suffering tenfold!"
"Noche would never go that far!" Boots yelled. "She's a good person."
Dia laughed.
"Noche wants to win at any cost," Dia said. "A good person wouldn't follow the road paved in death to achieve their goals."
Boots scowled and the grin on Dia's face grew to unnatural proportions – she raised her scythe towards the mother and daughter; the child screamed.
His eyes widened, the world became a blur, he stood before the pair in an instant. Speed was on his side, Dia would not swing the scythe in time – she puked tar in his direction. Time slowed to a standstill as instinct took over, he dodged.
Tar gushed onto the face of the screaming girl and down her throat.
Boots was motionless – the little girl whimpered and held her torso. It ripped open, organs and intestines spilled onto the dirt. The light faded from her tear-stricken eyes; she became silent.
The mom didn't move – she screamed and held her child tight, as tar spread to her. The screams didn't last long... Tar ate them both.
"Distracted?" Dia whispered
Boots spun, but wasn't fast enough – a punch sent him flying through three houses and into a mountain. Rock moved aside like water as he tunneled through to the other side. When he burst through the other side, Dia was there waiting.
Using Create to make wind, Boots flipped and flew towards Dia – A feeling of danger overwhelmed him. He stopped and raised his legs before a swing of the scythe cut them off.
