PHYSICAL TEST.
1774, SEPTEMBER 26th MONDAY 9:45am.
Noche and her classmates gathered at the track field as the sun shone overhead. As the wind blew, it left only a chill in its wake. Leaves danced from the branches they dangled from. In the distance, despite the cold, General salt was planting flowers alongside the chain-link fence. Noche couldn't believe her eyes as three birds landed on his shoulder and two squirrels ran up to sit in his lap.
"He's almost like a real princess." Noche muttered.
"I wonder if deer lick him?" Varen whispered.
Cherries chuckled quietly as he walked past a squirrel. It noticed him and didn't seem to mind at all. However, when it saw Noche, the thing hissed and puffed up its tail before running away. Noche thought that was weird, as she looked at the birds sitting on the power-lines. When her gaze landed on them, they flew off squawking. Noche frowned as she approached where she was told to go.
"Hey Cherries, I've always wondered... why is Cross so weird sometimes?" Noche whispered.
"How so?" Cherries said.
"Well, for example, that."
Noche pointed to a bench near the track field. It was placed in such a way where it directly faced the rock wall of the cliffside.
"Look at that. It's practically hugging the wall. WHY?" She said, "Who the hell puts a bench facing a wall?"
Cherries shrugged.
As they discussed this, Rust approached the bench with two bottles of beer. He sat down, placing one of them to his side and drinking the other.
"Speaking of which. I see Rust come to this bench every so often... Always with two beers too." Cherries said.
Noche watched for a moment, before she took notice of her shaking arms.
"What's wrong?" Cherries asked
"Oh... just nervous." Noche said.
"About today's entrance exam?"
"... About failing." She said, "I have to pass this exam to join Cross."
"But if I fail... Then that desert will consume me." Noche thought, "This exam... It's a life or death matter."
"Don't worry. I got your back." Cherries said, "I won't leave you hanging."
"The only thing that'll be hanging is me, if I fail this exam." Noche said.
"Jeez... That's a little dark." Varen said.
He went over and patted Noche's back.
"We all know how much you've been studying." Varen said, "You'll do fine."
Mary and Alice approached as Noche's smiled; her face reddened.
"Ready for the exam Apple?" Mary asked.
"Yep... Mango." Alice said.
"Awww, now isn't that... A-PEAL-LING" Varen said.
Both Noche and Mary groaned.
"ALRIGHT SOLDIERS, line up!"
The Grave brothers stood on the side of the track field.
"WELCOME TO THE CROSS ENTRANCE EXAM! As you know, there's a physical, written, and tournament." Red said, "To pass you need to succeed two out of three tests, or get a perfect score on any one of the tests."
