HONEYVILLE.
1774, NOVEMBER 13th SUNDAY 11:00 am.
After a pleasant one-hour walk, Noche arrived at Honeyville. It was a hilly town full of various white buildings tied together by banners of colorful, triangular flags. Noche stood before a fountain; a little restaurant named the honey bunny café resided in the distance. The sidewalk was made of antiquated bricks that shifted under each step and vines grew along the walls of old buildings.
Time had taken the small town and turned it into something beautiful. The cracks in the aged paint, the chips in the walls, and the green plants in-between only heightened the serene nature of this locale. Noche took each step slow as her eyes drank in the sight of this realm. She approached the local bookstore.
"Did you hear? Dharma's expanding her police," a woman chattered.
"And Raptorman's letting her?"
"His influence is shrinking," she said. "More people want to feel safe in that crazy city."
"I don't envy them," her friend said. "That's why I moved here."
The wind picked up and Noche had to grab onto her sun hat. She leaned against the bookstore entrance and looked down to her phone – her dress danced in the breeze. A small bell chimed as the store door opened and Varen stepped outside. His eyes widened, then flickered down and back up, when he turned to Noche.
She smiled. "Varen!"
"NACHOS!"
He picked her up in a hug and spun her around – Noche laughed the entire time. Fireworks spread across her lips as he planted another kiss. The two women's voices faded into hushed awws as Noche's mind tuned out all else.
"You look really good," Varen said.
"T-Thanks. You do too," she smiled.
"I'd take you to the beach, but I didn't want to make you feel pier pressure."
Noche's smile didn't change. "That was terrible."
He laughed. "Well I got you a gift for when the pun failed."
Varen held up a plastic bag from the bookstore he had just exited. Noche reached inside and pulled out a green fairytale book – the one about the grim reaper and the monster. She opened it up to an old lighthouse bookmark.
"AHH! I love lighthouses! Thank you so much!" Noche picked up the small divider. "They give me a vague feeling of my childhood... They feel so familiar."
Noche's arms tightened around him again.
"Haha, ahh, ow, ow," he chuckled. "You've definitely gotten stronger."
Noche's face turned a deep shade of red; she let go. Varen returned the blush with one of his own when she lowered her head and raised her eyes towards him.
"S-So, let me take you to that café."
She smiled. "Lead the way."
In a smooth motion, he grabbed her hand and led her up a tiny stairwell. They sat outside and Noche giggled as he pulled a chair out for her before seating himself.
"Man, I'm hungry," Varen said.
A waitress had approached them with water and menus. "Hi hungry, I'm Autumn. I'll be your waiter and welcome to the honey bunny café!"
