STALEMATE.

1774, OCTOBER 03rd MONDAY 8:10 am.

Noche stood up with Shaylin's help. A blur of limbs occurred before them.

"Your move, Dead Light Cannon? I saw a blue compass made of light around your wrist," Shaylin said. "Is there a reason for that?"

"N-No..." Noche muttered. "Its... It's for style."

Shaylin chuckled.

"Golly, you not only yell your attacks in advance, but you spend extra drive to be dramatic."

Noche blushed.

"S-Shut up!"

Shaylin smiled.

"I like you. You're cool."

Noche looked away.

"Dreg's... Taking longer than I thought."

Shaylin looked up.

Vida and Dreg fought at speeds too fast to follow with the eye. Arms vanished from the flurry of strikes they performed. The two disappeared, reappearing a few feet away. It almost looked like teleportation as they appeared in different spots. Occasional shockwaves appeared as the two moved faster than sound.

A torrent of flames exploded from Vida and Dreg's head flung back – a small trickle of blood ran down his nose.

"Ohh? You absorb physical attacks, but not energy?"

Vida grinned as fire covered her entire body; it did not harm her.

"That's why Trio annoys him so much," Noche muttered. "She specializes in energy-based attacks."

Fire exploded forth, Dreg dodged.

"Then let's burn together!" Vida laughed. "Nine circles of the first flame. Level Four, relea-"

It happened instantly.

Vida was pinned with her chest to the ground and Dreg standing on her back. Both arms in his right hand and Ouroboros in his left. A small ring of dust drifted around them. Noche was speechless.

"H-How did you-"

"I won't grant you death," Dreg said. "Fight all you like... I will not give you the honor you seek."

Vida went motionless, then her arms became limp. Dreg leg them go and walked off her – Ouroboros rose to his eyes.

"You're halfway to being my match," Dreg said. "That's still only half... There's still plenty of people who can grant your desire."

Bones creaked as Vida took a century to sit up.

"Killjoy," she muttered. "I hate it when I win."

Dreg turned and froze.

"Oh no," he whispered.

Shaylin cocked her head and followed his gaze.

"Sugar honey ice tea."

"What! What could freak you both-"

Noche's mouth hung open.

"No. Fucking. Way."

Beyond the massive hole in the clouds, the moon hung in the sky – shattered.
