summary: tom tries to make a beat for ag!reader, but it's not too great

Tom had come into the studio midway into a project. He was deep into conversation with your producer, Tommy Brown, while you were singing harmonies into the microphone, Victoria giving you the thumbs up when you had completed the fill.

Coming out, you removed your headphones and smiled, "Hi, Tom."

"Hey, baby," He returned your smile, moving in to give you a hug and a quick peck on the lips. "You've been busy."

You chuckled, "Yeah. I could use a break, though. Vic and I are gonna make a Starbucks run, wanna come?"

"No, Tommy's teaching me something about music production thingies," he tripped over his words, and you laughed with a nod, the two of you heading out of the room.

While you were gone, Tommy showed Tom the basics in creating music. Rhythm and beat count in tempo, specifically. After grasping it, Tommy excused himself from the room to get a hard drive upstairs, and Tom took the opportunity to open a new file and start making beats. Maybe you'd use something.

Fifteen minutes later and you were walking through the door with a venti iced coffee, laughing about something Victoria had told you.

"We're back," you sing-songed. Tom smiled, standing quickly. He was excited to tell you what he'd made, and excited to play it for you. He finally understood your feelings on release night.

"Love! I made a beat!" he cheered, and you clapped goofily, sitting in the rolling chair beside him.

"Let's hear it then!"
What came out of the speakers was not what you expected, and you glanced at Victoria, trying to suppress laughter at the soundtrack he'd started.

Midway through, Tommy came through the door with the hard drives in his hand, freezing when he heard the beat, eyes wide as the three of you exchanged glances, watching a very peppy Tom groove along to his own beat.

"Well?" He smiled, "What d'ya think?"

"Tom..." You let out a breath mixed with a chuckle. "I love you... but that's fucking awful. Not to be mean-!" You tried to make your honesty sound less brutal. "It's good for a beginner but- uh... it's nothing I would use. Ju-! Just because it's not... erhm," you cleared your throat. "It's not really my... genre?" The end of your sentence came out as more of a question, and you heard Victoria laughing in the corner.

Tom merely nodded. "Oh," he said softly, shoulders sagging down before he burst out laughing. "It was that bad, wasn't it?" He spoke between laughs.

The three of you joined in on his laughter, stomachs cramping at how hard you were going. "Yeah," you laughed. "That bad."

"Oh well," he patted your knee after calming down to some degree. "Guess I should stick to acting."
