Violet POV: ~ Present Day ~

"Alright, so. Who is this person we've been assigned to....speak to, anyways?"

"You mean, the dipshit we're about to kidnap?"

"Ugh. Do you have to say it like that?"

Dabi chuckled a bit at my unease, keeping his eyes focused on the laptop in front of him as he remained seated at the work station in our room.

It was a nice change to see him over there for once, instead of me. Besides, I was perfectly content in the kitchen, scarfing down my sushi like nobody's business.

"Rule number six, sunshine. If you're gonna do something, don't be a pussy about it. Own up to it." He explained casually, clacking his fingers around on the keyboard as he spoke.

I couldn't help but laugh at that very interesting way of explaining things, glancing over at him from across the room to see that smug smirk on his face.

"Wow. Spoken like a true menace of society, I see. I wouldn't have expected any other answer from you though." I chuckled, shaking my head slightly.

Dabi tore his gaze away from the computer for a moment to catch a glance of me, hooded blue eyes barely zeroing in on my small smile for a fraction of a second before his look was concealed by messy tufts of black hair.

"A menace to society, you say? Flattery won't get you anywhere this late in the game. If you wanna kiss my ass, you'll have to try a little harder than that. I've got some....ideas on how to do that if you're lacking creativity." He snickered, letting his straight, surprisingly white teeth show a bit through his snarky grin.

I rolled my eyes at his crass connotations, snapping my chopsticks at him a bit to get some order back.

"Hey, now. I am a taken woman, thank you very much. Don't forget that." I stated proudly, smiling as Natsuo's face flashed in my mind-

"That's never stopped me before." He started off much too quickly and comfortably, immediately adding onto his sentence before it could become weird.

"Not that you're my type, anyways. I already told you, no one wants to fuck a walking eggplant, didn't I?" He said rhetorically.

And while his words were surely meant to insult, his voice wasn't as cutthroat and conniving that time like it's been in the past. It's like he just said it to say it.

Either way, like I've already said...Dabi's words don't offend me. And I'm starting to become more comfortable and less worried about offending him.

Sure, I'd never want to purposely provoke him and make him legitimately angry, because that would be risky. I don't know him well enough to know what sets him off. But, in terms of little, snarky comments? I'm starting to feel more comfortable engaging in those with him. I'm understanding that this seems to be how he operates as a person.

Dabi and I were forced into this situation. We were forcibly paired together, with no way out. We've started off on a rocky foot, at rock bottom. I don't have to worry about offending him and ruining a friendship or partnership, because we're already at the bottom. At this point, the quality of our communication skills either go up, or they stay the same. But, because of that? Telling him what I'm really thinking and letting my overthinking reservations loosen a bit isn't risky-for the most part, anyways.

And because it's not a risk? I'm okay with doing it.

"Yes, well, I'll have you know that the match lights both ways-" I started off, before Dabi's snort of amusement cut me off.
