This was the extent of Nishojo's military advancements. She aimed her guns at the humans, slowly charging up to fire them. Once she did, she let it rip, blasting away at their futile attempts of escaping.
However, Marie jumped in front of them, raising the shield that emerged from her arms.
"Marie!" yelled Andrew, "Are you back now?"
"My apologies, Andrew," said Marie, holding back her guilt and regret from the events that had happened, "I only see through it that I help you guys get out of this alive. Please forgive me of my previous actions."
"It's alright," replied Andrew, "As long as you are okay. Maurice is doing fine. He's just heading towards the hospital right now."
"I'm so glad," smiled Marie as she turned to look at Nishojo, "You're dead!"
Marie went ahead and set up multiple sets of missiles, exploding at the metal armor that Nishojo wore. Laser Alpha was already in action, blasting and shooting at her every time she had triggered a laser. Jules even went ahead into the fight, using her extended arms to wrap around Nishojo and restrict her movement. This allowed Marie to easily hit her target and take Nishojo down. The armor began to wear down as well.
As Marie and Jules began fighting off Nishojo, Jameson, Laurence, Andrew, Ichishojo, and Baxter watched in the distance. Ichishojo looked grim during the onslaught.
"What's wrong?" asked Baxter, "They're winning."
"They're not," said Ichishojo, beginning to explain, "Generation 0 robots were robots that were designed by Arev to live long enough to outlast humanity and start anew. It's why they're built so different compared to robots of other generations. Even if Marie and Jules were to defeat Nishojo and shut her off now, it wouldn't matter as Nishojo would still power on with the battery she and I were built with."
"So how does one defeat her?" asked Jules, taking a break from the fighting.
"It'll be impossible to just destroy the battery," said Ichishojo, "So our next best plan would be to overload it. Overload it with a charge strong enough to completely shut it down and prevent it from powering on again. Only from then we can destroy the power core and end Nishojo's terror."
"How do you plan on overloading it then?" asked Baxter curiously.
"With another robot's internal battery," stated Ichishojo, "Of course it's a sacrifice."
Marie kept fighting off Nishojo, but giving a slight listen to what Ichishojo was saying. It seemed that this could be the only option they had left.
"I'll sacrifice myself then," said Laurence, sitting up from the ground, waking up from the shock of the taser.
"Laurence?" exclaimed Andrew in confusion.
Laurence continued, "I've been of no use recently. It'll be an honor to complete this task."
"Unfortunately, I can't let you do that," smiled Ichishojo, standing up, "You already have something worth to do in this world; and it's to keep your friend Andrew over there company and prevent him from going to extreme with his justice. Right? I'll be going on to sacrifice my battery. A Generation 0 for a Generation 0."
"But Ichishojo..." mumbled Jameson, pulling her back by grabbing her wrist, not willing to let her go.
"I have to do this, Jameson," smiled Ichishojo, "Us robots really need to adapt to the world we're in. I'm sure that with your help, you can make the world a better place for not only humans, but for the robots as well.
It's time for a new generation to come forth."
With that, Jameson understood what Ichishojo was describing. He finally let her go, with Jules accompanying her to Nishojo. The group felt as if they couldn't do anything to help, but this was entirely Ichishojo's decision. Marie stopped attacking Nishojo and let Ichishojo make her way to her sister.
"I can't stop you from overloading my battery, sister," said Nishojo, who was bruised up from Marie and Jules' attacks from earlier, "It seems that from the start this robot society was doomed."
"Don't say that," smiled Ichishojo, walking closer and closer to Nishojo, tearing apart her armor and opening up the internal battery, "All of the robots have to learn to trust humans, with humans trusting robots as well. We don't need total control or total freedom. We just need harmony between all of us."
"If that's a world that's going to be made... you better promise it. For only that reason, I'll accept defeat. Taking revenge is all I want, but to make harmony.... it's just not what a military robot was programmed for. What a cruel world I'm living in, right?"
"It's okay, sister.. I promise that we'll be in better hands. Not only us, but the descendants and the newer generations that come before us.
Trust is very important."
