Chapter Fifty-seven

Kenedi
Shadow lays down next to me placing her head on my stomach making me smile. She's been so protective over my stomach and it's adorable. She even bit Charlie's hand when he tried to just lay his hand on my thigh.

I take a picture giggling as Heer lays down next to me.

"Kenedi, I think you should really talk to Owen."

"Talk to him? There's nothing to say to him." Shadow looks up to me hearing how angry I sound. "Honestly, he's dead to me. I don't care what excuse he comes up with. You don't say that kind of shit to anyone. It doesn't matter if it's your worst enemy. You just don't." She sighs frowning.

"He's going through a lot, Kenz. He lost his baby too."

"Maybe he should've been a part of the baby's life then. If he hadn't been such a douchebag, the baby would still be alive and he and Sofia would still be together."

"What if I said we could get them back together?" I snort rolling my eyes.

"Yeah no. That's not happening. She deserves better than that."

"Kenedi-"

"No. She deserves someone that treats her like she's the princess that she is. Someone that won't leave her when things get just a little hard. Someone that won't completely break her just because."

"But they still love each other, Kenedi. If you could just see how Owen is dealing with-"

"No. It's his fault that any of this happened. If he had worn a condom or had been a man enough to actually handle the situation, he wouldn't be have to dealing with this." She sighs nodding. "Now I'd appreciate it if I could take a nap."

"Okay." She gets up frowning.

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight." She walks out as I sigh. I don't care what she says, I'm not letting my best friend get hurt again.

She deserves the world and the world is what she'll get even if it's just from me.

Charlie
I lay back on the couch eating a handful of nuts. I watch Heer walk out and raise an eyebrow seeing how upset she looks.

"Everything okay?" She walks over to me nervously.

"Do you think we could talk?"

"Of course." I pat the couch next to me telling her to sit down. "What's up?"

"Do you think we're close?"

"You and me?" She nods looking at her hands. "Of course I do. You're one of my closest friends. I go to you or Sofia over stuff with Kenedi and if that in itself doesn't make us close, I don't know what else will." She smiles lightly. "Now talk to me. What's going on?"

"Owen is really struggling."

"Oh."

"He didn't mean anything he said to Sofia so please don't just push this all off because you're mad at him." I sigh figuring that's exactly what Kenedi would do.

"I'm mad at him, but he's still my best friend."

"Then you should go talk to him."

"Heer, what's going on?" She chews on her lip nervously then leans back sighing.

"Sofia's mom wrote him a letter basically saying he's bad for her. When he heard that she's eighteen and pregnant, he freaked out."

"Woah woah woah. She's pregnant?" She smiles sadly.

"She was. She miscarried after all the stress of what happened with Owen."

"Oh my god."

"I know. But Owen told me that he knew Sofia wouldn't leave him unless he made her hate him so that's what he did and he regrets it. You should've seen how heartbroken he was when I told him she lost the baby."

"I'm glad I didn't see it. That would break my heart."

"Now you know how I feel. Imagine being the one telling him." I sigh frowning. "He's been drinking and sleeping around trying to forget about her, but he bought an engagement ring, Char."

"Oh my god. We have to fix them."

"I tried to get Kenedi to do it, but she wouldn't even listen to me. She literally hates his guts right now." I sigh frowning.

"I love her more than life itself, but if Sofia and Owen want to be together, she needs to suck it up and deal with it."

"Thank you for actually listening to me."

"I always will, Heer. That's what friends are for." I nudge her smiling. "Now answer me honestly."

"Okay." She laughs rolling her eyes.

"Is Kenedi okay?" She smiles lightly looking up at me.

"She's scared, but she's good. I promise."

"Will you tell me what's going on? Why has she been in bed? What happened at the hospital?"

"I told her that I wouldn't tell you. She said she'll tell you when she's ready so just trust her for now. Okay?" I sigh nodding.

"I just hate not knowing how to help support and comfort her."

"You just being you helps and comforts her. I promise." I smile lightly at her and hug her tightly.

"Thank you."

"God now I really don't want to go home." She laughs hiding her face in my chest. I laugh.

"You really think you're going home?" She looks up at me confused. "You're not going home. You're staying here."

"Wait what?"

"How are Kenedi and I supposed to just let you go home? That's not happening. You're staying with us."

"Are you being serious?"

"Have I ever not been serious?" Just as she opens her mouth, I realize what I just asked. "Don't answer that. Yes I'm being serious." She laughs shaking her head.

"You're a dork."

"Yeah I know, but I'm Kenedi's dork." She smiles lightly and nods.

"You are. But you should go talk to your girl while I go talk to Owen."

"Please tell him I love him."

"I will."

"And ask him if we can have a guy's night sometime. We'll figure out a way to fix this."

"I will. Thank you."

"When will Sofia be home?"

"Any minute now. The three of you should do something together."

"I'll probably let Kenedi nap and I'll take Sofia out for dinner or something."

"That sounds like a good idea. She needs a good male figure in her life right now." I smile lightly.

"And you think that's me?"

"Oh absolutely. She adores you, Char. And just so you know, you're going to be a great father and a great husband."

You're going to be a great father.
