BACKSTORY

Niragi watched as several guys from different classes surrounded her. She was smiling at them, loving every bit of attention she got.

He adjusted his glasses, about to walk away when one of the guys called out to him. It was one of the guys who liked to bully him. Niragi looked down at the ground, fear creeping up his spine.

"Meet me later. You know the place!"

Niragi gulped, not wanting to yield but he really didn't have that much of a choice so he just nodded and left.

He stood there, looking at the four guys in fear. It was just the same as every other day, they were going to make him bleed again.

"A pathetic loser like you would never have the chance to talk to Akane! Are you listening, Niragi?!"

Niragi looked up as the guy in front swung a baseball to his direction, hitting him right in the nose. He groaned in pain, kneeling down clutching his broken nose. He wanted to cry but he couldn't. Niragi didn't want them to see his tears.

"Oi! If you move again, we'll make you eat that again....urine rice." He heard the other three burst out laughing.

Niragi only frowned, his eyes wanting to scream in frustration. The guy was about to swing another baseball at him when they heard a familiar voice.

"Hey! What are you guys doing to him?!"

Niragi watched Akane's horrified look as she neared them. Her eyes flickered to him momentarily before she turned to the others.

"You guys think it's funny bullying people?" Her tone suddenly changed. It was like she completely flipped a switch inside.

Akane was usually bubbly and very approachable in school but at that moment, she looked like she could kill a man with her bare hands. Her eyes looked insane as they darted back and fourth between the four. They could feel the temperature drop like a massive storm was coming their way.

"A-Akane...." The one with the baseball bat managed to choke out her name.

Akane tilted her head at him with the same insane look and that was enough to make him let go of the bat he was holding. Not a second later, he had ran away along with the three others.

Niragi watched her closely. He was still on the ground gathering himself. He saw how she suddenly turned back to her usual self in an instant. Niragi wondered how someone like her could do that.

She was small and innocent-looking but Niragi knew how bad she could be. He has been looking at her for so long that he would sometimes catch a glimpse of the real her. Whenever she got praised or got attention, she would smirk a little and no one but him seemed to notice. There are times that he'd see her eyes twinkle whenever she saw someone hurt or crying especially if it's because of her. Niragi knew this because he stared at her a lot, observing her.

To everyone else, she was a good girl. But to Niragi, she was twisted and sick in the head. That's why it was such a surprise for him to see her this way. For him.

He didn't want to get sucked in by her like the others but he couldn't help it. The way she stopped those guys from hurting him further made him succumb to her completely. He had tried so hard but in the end she still had him around her fingers.

Since that day, Akane has been with him all the time. They were smart, competing with each other in class. Niragi fell for her charm, he fell hard.

But all he could do was watch her as she led people on purposely. He watched how dangerous she could be when she wanted to be.

Akane also had a sweet side, Niragi felt it was a genuine part of who she was and only he could see that real part of her. She had shown it to him because she wanted him to trust her.

"Wow! I can't wait to ride all of them!"

Niragi saw how her eyes sparked that night just because he had taken her to the amusement park for her sixteenth birthday. She was a little childish sometimes but it made her look so sweet, so pure.

He let her drag him to every ride there, even the merry go round. The smile on her face was priceless to him.

Niragi decided at that moment to confess to her, hoping that a part of her liked him back.

It was near midnight by the time they got tired. Akane didn't want to go home that night, her parents didn't even want her home.

As they walked to the exit, Niragi finally mustered up the courage to talk to her.

"Akane, I like you. Please be my girlfriend." Niragi nervously bowed in front of her, dreading the words of rejection.

Akane giggled before putting a hand on his head. Niragi looked up at her smiling face, confused.

"If you ask me the same thing tomorrow, I'll say yes." She smiled sweetly.

Niragi was stunned by her smile. He slowly nodded as if he was in a trance, her trance.

After getting home, he waited anxiously for the next day to come. He had never felt more excited going to school. It seemed like nothing bad would happen that day.

But he did not see her even after the last class ended. Niragi was worried, scared and confused as to where she could be. He didn't have her number or email so he didn't know how to reach out to her.

He was going insane looking for her, screaming for her. Something inside him changed because of that.

Niragi felt like he had been fooled. He thought that she purposely led him on just like the rest. That she was only with him to add him to her collection.

He felt pathetic.

Niragi didn't want wallow in pain. He didn't want to give her the satisfaction of breaking someone yet again.

But through the years, he wasn't able to forget her no matter how hard he tried. He changed, a lot. He had a lot of girls pining for him yet none of them made him feel something like she did.

Even though they weren't even technically together, he treasured those 9 months with her. During those months, she had made him fall so hard that he couldn't even get back up. Instead, he just embraced the pain never letting it leave him.

Akane taught him that life was great when you have someone you love beside you. But she also taught him that it was better being alone. No one could break you if you had your walls up.

She was his drug and he just can't get enough.
