Holy fuck the amount of fluff in here. Angst if you squint, but mainly fluff to warm thy hearts.
"I think that's a great idea," Kumori said as she took a sip from her matcha tea. Her knees were bent underneath her as she sat on the bamboo mat. When she set her tea cup down, she reached for the teapot, and delicately tipped the pot, letting the tea poor out.
I think that idea is deplorable and the stupidest thing I've heard all day. She set the teapot down as she tucked her yukata sleeves back down to her lap, then she looked up to face her parents.
"We're glad that you agree with us," Her mother beamed quietly. She was seated beside her husband as they sat in front of Kumori. "You know what that means right?"
"Best behavior inside and out," Kumori recited. She was 20 years old, a full adult, and yet her parents treated as something less.
"We're also glad to inform you that you'll be performing tonight," Her father said this time. Kumori glanced her dark eyes to him, not a change of emotion obviously, but this piece of news was not pleasant to her ears.
"You said this was a party event for the shamans of Japan. I don't see why I should be performing," Kumori was conscious to not make any sudden movements that would indicate her discomfort.
"We just think it would be a cute event to showcase your skills at the piano. You've worked hard on it for years, there's not point keeping it to yourself," Her mother. Kumori didn't see it that way. To her, they were just exploiting the things they've invested in for years. But Kumori only bowed her head.
"I guess I should get practicing then," Kumori mumbled quietly. She bid her parents a curt goodbye, before stepping off the Zenin Estate's. Then she ducked into an alleyway and shadow travelled to her apartment. She was quick to strip off the traditional garment, and placed her school uniform on. When she was done lacing her boots, she went back to the shadow world, and travelled to the school grounds.
When she stepped out, she blinked a few times, trying to let her eyes get used to the brightness. She knew she could endlessly heal herself, but shadow travelling too much disoriented her a bit. But then the headache went a away as she waved a hand.
Kumori had stepped out near the garden that she frequented since her first year. In the courtyard, sat her awaiting students, all in gear awaiting their sensei's instructions.
"No class today," She said as she walked up to them. She was received with mixed emotions, happy they had a day off, some annoyed that they had to wake up early for nothing. Some were even starting to walk back to the dorms. "I wasn't done yet," she said, putting them to a stop. They halted, but steadily turned around.
"At six o'clock this evening, we'll all be attending a gala commemorating all shamans," Kumori said steadily. She had to shield her eyes from the brightness Kugisaki was radiating off with her eyes widening, and her smile beaming. The majority of the response was groans and sighs.
Megumi, probably the most mature of everyone, including the second years, literally squatted, had his hands in a prayer sign, while leaning them on his forehead.
Itadori tilted his head in confusion. "You okay there Fushiguro?"
"I'm fine." Megumi grunted, not even batting his friend an eye. If anyone hated these outings more than Kumori, it was probably Megumi. He would either be hounded down by her Zenin elders, asking him to join the clan, or get in a fight. Long story short, parties were bad omens for the younger boy.
"I want you all in your best behaviours. It's a suit and tie event by the way. Ladies, skirts, dresses, or pant suits are fine. You have the rest of the day to formulate your outfits on such short notice," Kumori instructed. "I hope you all know what to bring and what not."
