Chapter 17 Kiss
The next day, I went to the city to run some errands for Tsukiyama, who was still upset about the group's disbandment. I went over to Anteiku so I could pick up some drinks for the guys back home.
I was frozen to see a familiar face. All of my focus concentrated on this one face.
"Kaneki, are you working back here?" I asked.
"I guess you can say that. How's everyone?"
"I haven't heard from Banjou and his group. Hinami is safe and Tsukiyama is still upset about the disbandment."
"You sound a bit more tensed than usual. Are you okay?"
"No, I won't be until I complete my goal. Kaneki, I have a proposition. I will take full responsibility for myself and my actions."
"I have a feeling that I know what your proposition is about and I'm afraid to inform you that I may not be the right guy." He tried to walk away but I grabbed onto his arm.
"Please Kaneki, I can do this. I just want to see Noboru again, I think you know how it feels to be kept away by someone you love. I just need help getting there...please..."
Kaneki rubbed the back of his neck, taking in a long deep breath. When he exhaled his eyes opened and he stood straight.
"Alright then, but this is only between you and me. Make sure that Tsukiyama knows nothing or else I will leave you behind."
I felt a rush of life flow within me again. I embraced him for a brief moment and pecked his cheek.
"Thank you, thank you thank you! I promise I won't tell anyone!" I rejoiced.
"Good then we'll be meeting with Yomo here. He'll help you on some basic training."
"Sure thing!" I yelled as I stormed out the shop.
Kaneki kept his promise and met with me for the past couple of days. Sometimes at night I'd sneak out the house and go train with Yomo. On our last day of training, we all went back to Anteiku at night for a drink.
"Thank you both for this opportunity. To be honest with you guys, I'm actually quite nervous for tomorrow."
"Just remember if things get crazy, I want you to run away as soon as possible. I don't want you to get caught." Kaneki reminded me.
"If the Aogiri try to fight you, avoid it. You're main task in to find Noboru, ignore the rest." Yomo added in.
"I know, I know. I'll be careful." I laughed. "Kaneki, thank you." I smiled at him.
"Did you remember to plan ahead of time?" Kaneki asked.
"Yes, I told Tsukiyama that I was going to hang out with Hinami for the night and come back home in the morning. And if anything should go wrong..."
I took out my cell phone and viewed at the two farewell text messages I had prepared.
"I will send these out before the time comes. I don't know if Noboru will still be sane when I see him again. It's better to be prepared for that moment."
"This is a very dangerous mission you two. Please be as careful as possible." Yomo got up from his seat and patted both of our heads. "I'll see you both again, goodnight."
Once he left, Kaneki picked up our cups and put them in the sink.
"Did you bring your clothes with you today?" He asked as he continued to wash
"Yup and I got my mask as well."
"You better get to bed, we have a big day tomorrow." he said.
