Chapter 18 Angels
I helped Noboru up with one arm and with the other I decided that now was a good time to send my message. I took out my phone and sent both my text messages.
"Alright lovebirds, it's time to give up!" A man hollered.
All the soldiers aimed their weapons towards me, telling me to stand down. I had no choice but to lower my kagune and raise up my arms.
Knowing that Noboru couldn't fight or run away, I knew that this would be our last moment together. I looked up at him, stood on my tippy toes and kissed him one last time.
"This is probably my last and only time to tell you this," I began to tear up. "I'm in love with you, Noboru. I just hope that you're in love with me too."
"Gumi, no matter what I'll always love you. If we had never split up, I kept wondering how I'd propose to you. Even when I was stuck with the Aogiri, I thought about when that day would come." He moved his closet arm down and held onto my hand.
"You really...you really wanted to marry me?" I gasped in tears.
"Of course, but at this moment I don't see that happening. I just wanted you to know. So...what would've your answer be?"
"I could see myself saying yes to that." I laughed.
"I'm sorry for hurting you. I wish I could've saved you in the end."
"No, but this is my chance to save you." I quickly wrapped my kagune around him and threw as far away as I could with my strongest arm. He landed on top of a building a block away from me.
"MEGUMI!" He yelled.
"Go now!" I screamed as I tired to fight off as much soldiers as I could with the remaining amount of strength.
Once everyone began to open fire at me, I started to feel panicked and less confident. The bright lights from their guns and the headlights from their cars blinded my vision. I had no way of knowing whether or not I was killing the majority of them.
When everything grew silent, I laid on the ground trying my best to breathe. The only thing surrounding me was a thick pool of blood, that was pouring out of my sides. I tried to speak but blood just came running out of my mouth.
I could hear someone walking up to me from behind. I tried to drag my body away from my killer but then he pierced my leg with something. I cried out loud and tried to get him with my kagune but within a second, he cut had sliced them off.
"THAT HURT!!" I squealed out of pain and partially begging for mercy.
My killer flipped me over so he could see the life fade away from my eyes. The man who stood in front of me wore glasses and had snowy hair. All I could do was blubber like a baby as he aimed his quinque at me.
"I don't want to die yet." I whimpered to myself.
"Is that so?" I heard him mumbled under his breath.
"Take this ghoul under custody and bring her over to the labs for testing!" He ordered the other soldiers.
My heart dropped. All I could do was lay there and cry in silence. Some medic guy rushed over and stabbed me with a syringe, giving me some kind of medicine that numbed me and prevented me from using my kagune.
Within a few minutes, I could feel my eyes grow heavier and heavier. My biggest fear was about to come true and I had no way of stopping it from happen.
"I'm sorry Noboru...Kaneki...Hide...Hinami... Kanae...Rize...Touka... Yomo...and of course Tsukiyama..... I failed to keep my promise...I guess I'm not coming back home."
