I was the daughter of Aleo Pfeiffer, a very wealthy man, who worked in close proximity with the royals to administrate economic matters within the walls. My father was in charge of overseeing the wealth distribution and the tax money of the people. His job was an important job, which is why my family was very well known. The Pfeiffer last name was associated with wealth and high status. My father was praised by the people of the Royal Capital, which is where we lived.
I lived a lavish life, always had everything handed to me. Satin dresses, luxurious feasts with the royals, our house was large and beautiful. I never had anything to complain about.
As a Pfeiffer I had the expectation, that when my father passed away, I would be the one to oversee the city's wealth. It was an important job, but I was ready to take such responsibility.
_________
I usually accompanied my father to his important meetings. He felt that I needed to always observe in order to learn about his job. Today he had invited a group of men into our house, in order to speak about important matters.
We all sat down in his office, I had a pen and paper ready to take notes. The gentlemen were all very cordial, they all greeted me respectfully and they all began their meeting.
"Aleo...we all know that money is going to waste, it would be better to cut it off completely" One of the gentlemen directed himself to my father.
"The taxes from the Capital's people should be going elsewhere, to give them any sort of income is ridiculous" Another gentleman added.
My father looked deepened in thought. He was sipping tea with his right hand, as the men spoke to him, seeming like he was taking in what they were saying.
My father always loved black tea, I never understood how he liked it without any sugar or honey, It was honestly amusing how proud he would be of himself whenever he told everyone he liked his tea plain.
It was absolutely revolting.
"Gentlemen" my dad said while placing his tea cup on the table. "I think we can all agree that the Scout Regiment is a joke, draining our tax money" he continued.
I was now staring at him, genuinely interested in what my father had to say.
"But sadly, the military has decided that their branch is crucial to maintain peace within the walls" he concluded his statement.
The men at the table started all pitching in their counter arguments all in unison, disapproving of my father's final conclusion.
He had spoken to me before about the Scout Regiment, they were a branch of the military that specialized in outside expeditions. It was fascinating. Although the idea of exploring the outside of the wall seemed thrilling, I agreed with those around me with the perspective that the Scouts were moronic.
They would go on expeditions, half of them would die, and then they would rinse and repeat.
I understood why everyone in the Royal Capital shared a negative outlook on the importance of said military branch.
"If what you guys want is to cut their cost, I won't object" My father seemed to finally be persuaded by men around him.
"You have eventually come to your senses Aleo" One of the men signaled my father to continue.
