Jisoo tapped her fingers against her thigh impatiently as the elevator rose towards her destination. A soft chime announced her arrival and she watched as the elevator doors opened to an empty hallway.
She braced herself against the wave of cold air as she stepped out onto the 100th floor of the YG Tower, which held her mother's personal quarters. Similar to YG's throne room, there were no guards in sight. Jisoo suspected that anyone who harbored ill intent towards YG would either never make it to this level or do so under lock and chain.
Chains like the ones I put around Jennie just now.
She pushed the intrusive thought away and sighed. She had tired of dealing with her feelings long before the night's events had made things way worse.
The other girls made their choice and I made mine. This is the only way to ensure the survival of what's important to me.
She ran a hand through her hair and began tapping her thigh anew, this time with anxiety as she passed through the entrance room.
YG's personal level was an open floor, with little in the way of comfort. There were not even traces of food out in the open but she assumed the door in the back of the huge room led to a bedroom.
Looks more like an art gallery than a living space.
To her right was a counter and a stove, both in pristine condition. There were a few pieces of furniture to her left and most of it looked rarely used despite YG having temporarily relocated the Tower to oversee its grand opening almost six months ago. Beside this furniture was YG herself. She was standing at a full length window overlooking the city, a cup of wine in hand. Her cane leaned against the window beside her. Jisoo watched her reflection appear on the window panels as she walked towards her mother. She eyed the cane momentarily.
YG didn't turn around. "Yes." As always, even her questions were not questions but commands.
"Jennie is back in custody ma'am." Jisoo said simply.
"You confirmed her capture personally?" YG turned slightly to look sideways at her daughter, the moonlight casting a beautiful silhouette on her side features. She stared at the glass in her hand, tilting the red liquid back and forth.
"I was the one who brought her down. She had been cornered in a stairwell and she wasn't going down without a fight."
YG turned fully to face Jisoo, who immediately knelt to avoid disrespect. YG stared at the top of her head. "'Cornered'. Hmm." She mused to herself. "And Jennie has refused to reveal the whereabouts of the one I had sent down with her, Sylvia as she liked to be called in America." Again, not a question but a statement. As if she knew the outcomes of matters before they happened.
Jisoo hesitated, surprised that her mother knew Sylvia's name. "Correct as always. The guards are still looking for Sylvia. They believe that at some point, she and Jennie split off and that she used the chaos of the fighting to slip out of the building. Jennie maintains that she left Sylvia in the dungeons."
"So you're saying that you lost her?" YG's tone grew colder than normal.
"Not quite. Exterior cameras showed twelve guards leaving at the end of their shift. I ordered each of them followed and their identities confirmed. I believe Sylvia may have had help from another YG employee in escaping and is attempting to flee the city." Her voice did not waver despite her mother's growing disapproval. Jisoo was confident in her information.
YG let the silence hang over Jisoo for a minute. Then she placed her cup of wine on Jisoo's bowed head and walked past her.
Jisoo grit her teeth but held her silence as her mother's heels clicked against the floor. There was a cushioned exhale as YG sat down on a sofa. Still Jisoo held her kneeling position, her perfectly trained posture easily balancing the wine on her head.
The silence grew, minutes ticking by before YG spoke. Jisoo could sense a dry smile behind her voice. "Did you plan to stay there all night and become a permanent part of my furniture or was there something else?"
"Yes, there is something else Ma'am." Jisoo began, turning her head, tilting it slightly to keep the glass balanced. Through the gaps in her glossy hair, she could see YG comfortably reclined in her seat. She had brought her cane with her and twirled it with one hand in silence.
Jisoo waited, imagining what she could do if she could just get her hands on the cane. The silence returned and with no response coming from her mother, Jisoo continued. "I was hoping that this would have helped prove my loyalty to you and to the YG family."
"Hoping?" YG repeated the word as if saying it left a bad taste in her mouth. "You hoped to convince me with the capture of Jennie, who was going to be captured with or without your assistance, that your decades of disobedience had been overwritten in a matter of hours? You hoped that taking command of MY guards would be enough to make me see the light and forget all your past sins against me?" YG stood up out of her seat and walked over to Jisoo.
From her position, all Jisoo could see was the top of her mother's designer shoes and the cuff of her white pantsuit as she invaded her personal space to stand directly in front of her.
"Or perhaps you hoped to have tricked me. You hoped to prove to me that you did such a thorough job that I wouldn't have to do any investigating of my own." YG leaned down and snarled in Jisoo's ear. "But I did. And I found that ten guards, not twelve, were scheduled to leave in the past fifteen minutes. And I know the last time I sent BLACKPINK to New York, Rosie rented a private suite at a certain love hotel." YG placed a perfectly manicured hand on top of Jisoo's head, gripping it tightly and shaking the glass of wine. A few red drops spilled onto her head and slid down her scalp. "She thought I wouldn't find out because she used her own name but when it comes to my groups, I always find out. And since those two unauthorized guards left in the same direction as that love hotel, I sent Titania and her entire squad after them." She removed her hand to turn and look at the clock on the wall next to the entrance. "Titania should be arriving shortly."
Jisoo placed a hand on the floor as she struggled to control her shaking. Rage had been building inside of her from the moment YG had placed the glass on top of her head and just like the wine, her anger threatened to spill over now. She took a moment to breathe in before speaking. Jisoo knew that her mother valued control over everything else. YG took a sip from the glass before replacing it on Jisoo's head.
"I assure you that I had no idea about any of that." Jisoo's tone was flat and emotionless.
"Really?" YG pounced on the opportunity. "So you had no idea that Rosie and Jennie were sneaking away together for hours whenever I let your pathetic little group have some time away?"
Jisoo bit her lip, "I was not aware that they had a room here in New York, Ma'am. Nor was I aware of the exact number of guards on rotation for tonight." She attempted to divert the topic, "If my service has not been satisfactory as of yet, please allow me to go and bring back the others myself."
"I already told you that I sent Titania. Don't question me again." She tapped her foot impatiently. "She will bring them back, all of them. Whether or not they are brought back alive depends on if they choose to resist. After her failure, I've made sure that Titania is particularly motivated to succeed in her mission."
Jisoo was silent. She knew that Lisa and Rosie would resist til their dying breath.
"No, I have a task much more fitting in mind for you. And if you do this for me... You will have proven your loyalty to me and receive what you so greatly desire." YG took the glass from Jisoo's head as she spoke and took up her cane in her other hand.
Jisoo stood face to face with her mother, ignoring the cane in her mothers hand.
Not yet. I have to be patient.
"I'll do it. Anything. As long as you keep your word." Her eyes were determined. It was clear by the look on her face that Jisoo would complete the task, any task given to her, to gain her freedom.
YG smiled, a vicious and devious smile. She could see that as well. "My dear daughter, when have I ever not kept my word?"
