Each breath felt like she was being stabbed again. Currents of consciousness flowed around her and unbidden, she rose towards the surface. She grew aware of her body violently sliding back and forth and the squealing sound of rubber against pavement.
The sound of heavy rainfall against the surface above her replaced the pounding of her own blood pumping in her ears. She managed to force her eyes open and to the side, she could see the back of a woman's head. Her red hair waved back and forth, matching the sliding of her own body as she yelled and her body swayed to one side, arms cycling in a circular motion. Unrestrained, she slid to the side and stars exploded in her blurred vision as her head bumped into a wall. She sank back into unconsciousness.

Rosie cursed and jerked the wheel to the left and barreled down an alley. Sorry Lisa, she winced as she heard the unconscious girl strike the interior of the car door. It would have been more dangerous to tie you down with that wound. The large vehicle scraped through the narrow alley opening and Rosie turned sharply, wheels skidding across the sidewalk and back onto the slick street surface. The lights in her rear view mirror vanished as her maneuver bought her some much needed space from their pursuers. She took the next few turns at high speed before slowing down to avoid public suspicion. Rosie bit her lip, running through the map of the city in her mind and recalculating a path to safety that hopefully would avoid the search party.

Lisa grew aware of her body being gently lifted. Her body was cradled in a set of powerful arms. Her eyes flickered. Through a painful haze, she could see red strands. They brushed against her cheek and she sank back into unconsciousness.

Rosie put Lisa down on a large couch. It would be easier to change her bandages on the firm cushions of a couch. She straightened and took in her surroundings. Turning in a circle, she took note of the large bed leading towards a spacious kitchen with a sturdy dining table with two seats. There was an electrical panel near a stainless steel stovetop. All in all, it was a normal room for a private love hotel.
An involuntary sigh escaped at the sight of the large heart shaped bed against the back wall of the room. Her mind wandered away and came back with a warm and soft memory. She pushed the memory away in anger. She made her choice and I made mine. Rosie distracted herself in the kitchen and prepared bandages along with a moderate medicinal salve. While waiting for the water to boil, Rosie slumped into an empty armchair meant for two and placed her head in her hands.

She carefully tested the waves of consciousness once more. There was no immediate pain so she carefully waded back into the world of the living.
Lisa's eyes blinked open and for a moment, she was at peace, swaddled in warmth. Then she took a deep breath, pain rushed back into her body, warmth turned into painful burning heat and her breath turned into a gasp. Rosie had dozed off but her head jerked up at the sound of Lisa. She rushed to her side and grabbed a warm washcloth from the basin placed near the couch. Rosie knelt and lifted Lisa's bangs to wipe her forehead and gently pulled the blanket back over her chest.
"Hey there dummy." Rosie's eyes were filled with emotion as she looked down at her teammate.
Lisa hazily focused on her friend, gratitude shining out of bloodshot eyes. Her throat bobbed up and down as she tried to speak.
