Her eyes fastened to her mother, Jisoo preemptively stuck a hand out to her side before Rosie could run towards Jennie.
Rosie let out a low growl, audible only to those in the pit.
Jisoo repeated her hand motion with more force.
Please. Wait.
Her own feet had nearly carried her to Jennie before she caught herself so Jisoo could only imagine what Rosie was feeling at the moment. She didn't expect the assassin to obey her and braced herself to spring into action the moment YG began firing again.
Jisoo chanced a fleeting look backwards and could see the veins in Rosie's neck straining as she fought against her instincts. She was fixated on the lifeless bodies in front of her.
The six women still standing were in a loosely formed triangle. Jisoo was furthest forward and closest to her left was Rosie then Seulgi. To her right was Yeri, Lisa, and Joy.
If Rosie moved, Seulgi would be in a perfect position to attack her blind spot. Then Jisoo and Lisa would both be exposed if they turned to help. It would be a cascading effect of mistakes.
Joy was warily watching both YG and Rosie, waiting for her to make the first move but hesitant to begin the fight.
Jisoo knew that somewhere behind her, the aggressive Yeri was surely waiting for the same moment.
Jisoo risked another glance back.
Rosie hadn't moved but the fire in her eyes had surprisingly burnt out. Jisoo caught her gaze and searched it briefly. Then she understood Rosie's change of mind.
Jisoo was reminded of their previous fight together, one floor up. Just like before, it seemed that they had gotten lucky. She didn't yet understand how it was possible but she would trust Rosie to make the right decisions going forward.
The tension eased momentarily.
Above them, YG lifted her head away from the aiming apparatus on her weapon with a raised eyebrow. "So my daughter retained some of her leadership qualities after all."
YG tapped her foot as she met her daughter's gaze.
There's no telling what would have happened if we had started fighting again. She might have shot us all... If she has any ammo left.
Caught up in her mortal battle, Jisoo had pushed YG's agenda to the side but now she was struck with the cruel reminder that her mother had and always was the root of it all. Compared to her, Red Velvet and even Ophelia and other YGE employees were simple to understand. Jisoo could securely rely on the notion that even if their true intentions were hidden, they all would eventually follow their own consistent patterns of logic.
But not her mother. She had known that her mother was holding a weapon simply from her stance as she took aim but YG gained nothing from shooting Wendy to get to Jennie. Searching for a line of reason in her mother was like staring into an endless abyss.
If Mother was willing and able to use a deadly weapon, why did she allow us to fight for so long? Why interrupt us now? Why take the risk of killing her own fighters?
YG waved the strange instrument at the group. "I'm sure you are quite curious about this. This is called the Rupture."
"A unique experimental product of my YGE labs," YG said, her ego allowing a trace of pride to slip into her voice. "As I hope you all have concluded by now, upon entry, each rotating orb expands and tears through its target. Hence, the rupturing of flesh and organs." She paused to admire the strange weapon. Like a trio of rifle barrels intertwined. "The high rotation also provides quite a nice piercing effect."
