Jennie could feel her anger beginning to boil over as Joy spun around and sent another whip strike straight at Rosie. She had managed to warn her in time but Rosie's frustration clearly matched her own. The two tricksters had set up a strange sneak attack by attaching wires of Yeri's whip to Joy's clothes when they initially separated. Whether they had a hidden signal or just a preplanned timing, Joy had detached the stretched out whip for an attack after Yeri drew the attention of Rosie.
Using a simple focusing trick that she had learned from Jisoo, Jennie bit the inside of her cheek and took a deep breath as drops of blood trickled onto her tongue.
It was hard enough to get within range of Joy as she wielded her creepy spiky whip and Jennie's mostly useless arm made it difficult for her to finish off the tenacious fighter.
"Guess things aren't as easy as you thought it would be!" Joy laughed as she dragged her whip back and forth across the ground. "I think I can see steam coming from your head as you try to come up with a plan."
"I can already see blood coming from yours so I don't think I need too much of a plan," Jennie retorted.
"All of that happened before we were allowed to use our real skills." Joy gave a playful growl as she swung the whip around her head before sending its barbed metal tips straight at Jennie.
Jennie stepped to the right and immediately jumped back to the left as Joy mirrored her movement, sidestepping to the left and spinning her handle to the right to crack into the stones near her feet.
Joy let out another teasing laugh as she pulled the whip back, content to stall out her time-pressed opponent without pressing for the victory. The bleeding from Joy's stomach seemed to have slowed despite the steady trickle coming from her head. Jennie knew that despite her appearance, Joy would last longer than she would.
Joy did a graceful pirouette before lashing out, her extended movement causing the whip to vibrate and shimmer in the air creating a wide area of damage as well as difficult to track.
Jennie dove to the side and curled her head under her hands, rolling in a ball as the spike on the end of a whip strand sliced into her back and hooked into her skin.
A normal reaction to the searing pain of skin being split open would be to move away from the source of it. Which is exactly the thought process the whip was designed to punish. The barbed hooks would tear at the flesh of its cowardly target as they tore themselves apart trying to avoid greater pain and the wielder would gleefully hold tight as they did.
But that thought didn't occur to Jennie.
Feeling the tearing of her skin as she was tugged backwards, Jennie stopped her roll and immediately twisted around, grabbing at the source of her pain. She smoothly unhooked the barb from her back and now found herself holding Joy's whip.
Joy raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure you want to be holding that?"
Jennie winked, her hand bleeding as the pointed spikes along the length of the cord pierced her. "It's not so bad, you should try it some time."
"What makes you think I haven't?" Having lost the tension in the cord, Joy had to retreat to a greater distance before angrily yanking on the whip. After a moment in which she easily held onto the whip, Jennie let the whip coil back towards its owner.
Jennie took a step to her right and then rolled to the left as Joy once again moved to the left and cracked the whip towards the right.
A smile slowly grew on Jennie's face.
"Rosie!" Jennie could see her partner ducking and dodging in the shadows beyond Joy.
There was a loud crack as Yeri's whip strike missed its target. "Whatcha got?" Rosie answered out of breath.
