285 AC, Winterfell

"Do you really have to leave?" Ned asked as they stood on the courtyard of Winterfell. Two parties were ready to leave that day; one for the Wall and one for Casterly Rock.

"If I delay it much longer I fear Lord Tywin will send half an army here to get me," Alyssa half joked, "But I promise I shall be back soon. You can't get rid of me that easily."

"And I'm sure I will be able to visit," Benjen tried to stay optimistic, "I can always pretend I'm here to find new recruits for the Night's Watch."

"The pack aren't supposed to split up," Ned pointed out, looking between his two younger siblings worriedly.

"You worry too much, Ned," Alyssa placed a comforting hand on her brother's shoulders, "That's my thing. And that reminds me, Benjen, once you arrive at the Wall you will have some time before you take your vows, if you change your mind in that time you are always welcome back home-"

"Thanks, mother," Benjen said sarcastically, "but I'm sure I will be fine. It's you we should all worry about."

"Aye, you will be facing giants, wildlings and all the other dangers beyond the wall while I have to face blonde, arrogant and rich Lannisters. Who is to say what's worse?" Alyssa said, "Mine. Mine is definitely worse."

"If Lord Tywin, or Jaime, or anyone else does anything-" Ned started but Alyssa didn't let him finish.

"I will be able to handle them myself. Tywin Lannister's slightly crooked nose is enough to prove that," she gave him a soft smile, "I definitely do not need another brother riding South to kill my husband."

"Jaime Lannister is no Rhaegar Targaryen," Ned said, "It's not considered treason to murder another Lord."

"But it is a very good cause for war," Alyssa pointed out, "And I promise you Ned that I shall be fine. I have survived the Reach, Dorne and King's Landing, I'm sure Casterly Rock won't be that much harder."

"Except that it's crawling with Lannisters," Ned snorted, "You won't be able to turn a corner without seeing that golden hair."

"You mean like my son's golden hair?" Alyssa smirked and Ned gave her an exasperated look.

"You know what I mean."

"I know," Alyssa pulled him into a hug, "and I appreciate your concern. But I ask you not to worry. You have a lot to deal with already without worrying about me. I promise you that if anything happens I shall write to you immediately."
