289 AC, Casterly Rock

"Why are you so insistent on getting yourself killed?" Jaime asked, trying to get her to change her mind for the millionth time.

"Why do you have so little faith in me that you immediately think that I'm going to get killed?" Alyssa countered, giving her husband a pointed look.

"I'm merely trying to look out for you!" Jaime all but shouted, "You could die!"

"So could you!"

The Ironborns attack on Lannisport had only been the beginning. Balon Greyjoy had proclaimed himself King of the Iron Islands in an attempt to break free from the Seven Kingdoms.

It had been a surprise attack that no one saw coming and aftermath had been the destruction of the entire Lannister fleet which had given the Ironborn the opportunity to launch more attacks towards other costal cities.

It was an act of war, which meant that bannermen had been called for and the Great Houses were allying to defeat the rebelling house. Ned had already started gathering his men up in the North and Tywin was doing the same in the West.

Due to the marriage contract Alyssa signed Tywin Lannister could not protest when she demanded to fight in this war, but that didn't mean that the Old Lion liked it. However, he couldn't order her to stay and had quickly given up negotiating with her.

Jaime on the other hand was far more reluctant to let her leave for war and had been trying to get her to stay behind for days now.

"I can take care of myself just fine," Alyssa crossed her arms over her chest and glared at her husband, "You have seen me train, I even beat you sometimes. You have never had a problem with me fighting before-"

"That's because it's simply training!" Jaime ran a hand harshly through his hair in frustration, "When you spar with me, and with the other men, I know that bruises and maybe a small cut is the worse that could happen. But this isn't a game Alyssa, you could actually die."

"Anyone can die during a war!" Alyssa argued, "But if I had been a man you wouldn't have thought twice about me coming along. The problem here is that you don't have any faith in my abilities because I'm a woman-"

"I don't have a problem with you being a woman who wants to fight in war. I have a problem with my wife not caring about her own safety," Jaime shouted, his green eyes darkening, "If you don't want to do this for me, do it for Ashton, Edmund and Bash. Don't like them without a mother."

"But it's okay to leave them without a father?"

"If we both fight in this war we might leave them as orphans!"
