300 AC, Riverrun
Alyssa found herself in the dungeons, tending to the wounds of the two Lannister boys that had been captured by Edmure. She had seen them around Casterly Rock a few times, but House Lannister was very big with many branches, so she had never actually spoken to them before.
She was tending to Martyn Lannister's arm while Willem stood beside them when Martyn spoke for the first time, "You are Ser Jaime's wife."
"Aye, I am, and I have been for as long as you have been alive," Alyssa continued to tend to his arm, "Now hold still."
"Then why do you fight for the Starks?" Martyn asked her.
"You can dress a Wolf in lion's clothing, but she will still be a Wolf underneath," Alyssa told them. "I may be Jaime Lannister's wife but I also happen to be Rickard Stark's daughter, Eddard Stark's sister and Robb Stark's aunt."
"Is it true what they say about him?" Martyn asked her curiously.
"I don't know," Alyssa stopped tending to his arm for a moment. "But now you have made me curious. What do they say about him?"
"That he can turn into a wolf at night," Martyn said and Alyssa had to hide a smile.
"True," she nodded with a serious expression. "And not a pretty one."
"And he eats the flesh of his enemies," Martyn continued and this time Alyssa had troubles holding but her laughter. It was quite amusing what kind of stories that was made up to scare children.
"Oh, don't worry. My nephew doesn't eat children unless it's a full moon," Alyssa looked at them seriously, and she could see that the boys actually looked a little frightened so she dropped the act and a smile broke out on her face, "I'm just jesting - he definitely does not turn into a Wolf."
"Are you certain?" Martyn asked.
"Trust me - had my nephew been able to turn into a Wolf I would have bragged about it," Alyssa finished bandaging his arm. "You have nothing to fear from us. Lord Edmure's men - they didn't treat you poorly, did they?"
Martyn looked down, avoiding eye contact so Alyssa turned to Willem who still hadn't said a word; But the younger boy looked away. Alyssa wasn't naive enough to believe that the boys hadn't been roughly handled, men lost all their common sense during wars, but they were just children.
"Martyn," Alyssa turned to the older boy, knowing that it was more likely that she would get an answer from him, "What did they do?"
Martyn didn't answer her so Alyssa carefully brought up his bandaged arm, "When you got this, were you armed?"
