304 AC, King's Landing

"Dragonglass?"

"Yes, dragonglass," Alyssa repeated. They were seated in the Small Council chamber; with Rhaegar and Alyssa occupying the chairs opposite each other. "Or obsidian of you want to use the proper term - the one that the Maesters use."

"Speaking of that," Connington changed the subject, seated at Rhaegar's right side while Ser Arthur sat on his left, as the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. "We need to appoint a new Grand Maester."

A smug satisfaction waved over Alyssa and she cast a glance at Kēlio who was lying on the floor beside her chair. For while she had wanted to be the one to kill Pycelle herself, him being attacked and killed by her lion brought her an odd satisfaction.

For years Pycelle's loyalty had been with House Lannister; even when he served as Grand Maester for House Targaryen. He had served the lions and he had died at the hands of a lion; a fate suiting a man who had absolutely no honour.

"Whilst I completely agree that we are in the need of a new Grand Maester - I think it's more pressing that we focus on winning against the Army of the Dead - since there won't be any need to appoint a Grand Maester if we are all dead," Alyssa tried to keep her voice from becoming sarcastic, attempting to not start a fight. "It's better to take our time and choose a suitable candidate instead of rushing it and ending up with another idiot for the upcoming decades. The realm can survive without a Grand Maester."

Seeing that Connington was about to argue, Alyssa quickly added, "But since it seems to be of such importance to you, My Lord Hand, I suggest you send a letter to the Citadel asking them to create a list of possible candidates."

Instead of responding, Connington turned to Rhaegar who nodded, "Do as she says Jon. In the meantime we will manage with the Maesters we have."

"Wonderful," Alyssa said, "and now when that is sorted - we need send someone to Dragonstone to investigate if the Citadel's information is accurate - and if that is the case - to retrieve the dragonglass so it can be forged into weapons. Is there anyone that want to offer themselves as our dragonglass retriever?" She scanned the table, "It includes a trip to the dreary island of Dragonstone."

Robb, Tyrion and Oberyn both chuckled at her comment but for a few seconds no one said anything. "I can go," Lyrella then offered. "It should be a Targaryen that goes; to officially reclaim the island."

"Splendid," Alyssa said, glad that someone was offering so that she wouldn't have to force anybody. "Does anyone else wish to accompany her?"

"Don't you trust me?" Lyrella asked, looking genuinely offended.
