304 AC, King's Landing

After days of endless meetings and councils it had finally been decided how they would mobilise their armies and travel North. Alyssa along with the Lannisters and the remaining northerners would travel North as soon as possible, together with the riverlords and soldiers from the Vale.

Later the rest would join whilst enough soldiers stayed in King's Landing for the Capital to be protected. They realised that one person needed to stay behind and rule in Alyssa and Rhaegar's place. It had been a difficult decision who would stay since everyone wanted to fight for the realm.

But after a while it had been decided that Viserys would stay behind with Ashara and Elia. It had been difficult to convince the Prince to stay behind since he didn't want to allow his family to face the dead while he was in safety; but after some convincing he realised that he could do just as much good in the Capital as he could up in the North.

He was also one of the few people they trusted would do what's best for the Seven Kingdoms and the reign of House Targaryen without having any ulterior motives himself. They also realised the importance of having at least one or two Targaryens in safety, far away from danger should the rest be killed in battle.

At first Daeryn had been the obvious choice since he was Rhaegar's heir. But they all soon realised that Daeryn needed more time and practice when it came to ruling; Viserys was older and at least he had lived his first few years in court, making him more familiar with the Westerosi system.

They had no time to waste since the dead were coming closer and closer with every passing day. Therefore they had already packed up most of their things and were ready to leave as soon as possible.

They had only just finished one war and now they were all of to fight the next; Alyssa just hoped that this would be her absolute last war. She felt like she deserved that. That the Seven Kingdoms deserved a few years of peace.

"Mother," Daeryn said when Alyssa walked through the gardens on her way to Rhaegar's new, and temporary, solar since it soon was time for her and the Lannisters to leave.

"Daeryn," Alyssa smiled at her son. She noticed the worried expression on his face and said, "Is everything okay, my dear?"

"I don't know," Daeryn admitted as Alyssa led him over to a bench where they sat down. "I just - I wish we didn't all have to split up so soon. We have just gotten back our family and now everyone is going their separate ways again - preparing for another war."
