303 AC, King's Landing

Tywin Lannister had never thought that he'd one day would even consider plotting against his own family. He had spent years trying to make sure a King with Lannister blood sat on the Iron Throne but now when that had finally happened he found himself working against him.

Since the moment Cersei and Jaime were born Tywin had grand plans for the twins. They were his and Joanna's golden children; a heir to inherit Casterly Rock and a girl that one day would stand beside the King.

But over the years both his children had proven to be huge disappointments. Not only had Tyrion killed his beloved wife when he entered this world, but his other children who he had once trusted to become his legacy continued to disappoint him.

Jaime had from an early age shown that he had no interest in the Rock. At first he had believed it to be a childish whim since he knew that most young men preferred swordplay and knighthood over politics; that was not the case for Jaime. That had shown when he foolishly joined the Kingsguard, throwing away his entire life that other men would die to have.

Cersei was the opposite despite their similarity in appearance. She was the Light of the West and from an early age she knew that her place would be on the throne. His daughter knew more about politics and what it took to rule than most other noble ladies, but she was just as foolish as Jaime - that she had proven over and over again.

Tywin had strategically decided to stay out of the rebellion until he was certain Robert Baratheon would win. He knew that Robert would need a wife and once the youngest Stark girl had been pronounced dead he had finally managed to make his daughter Queen.

But before he was certain of his daughter's betrothal he had managed to secure the match between Jaime and the Prince of Dragonstone's widow - a marriage he never thought he would arrange. Because why would the heir to the richest House in Westeros wish to wed a widow when he could have any maiden he wished for?

A lot of people might have believed the match to be unfavourable. But Tywin knew better. Alyssa Stark would be able to rule the Rock in a way his own son never would. Once Alyssa had given birth to an heir she would be tied to House Lannister whether she liked it or not - and he knew that the she-wolf would fight for her children and therefore would fight for House Lannister's legacy.

Even if the Targaryens returned to Westeros she would make sure House Lannister survived. Had only Daenerys and Viserys Targaryen been left alive it would have been harder to control since Alyssa didn't share any blood with the two. With Princess Lyrella and Prince Daeryn alive Alyssa would be able to influence them - make sure that no matter what a Lannister rules Casterly Rock.
