The inter highs flew by and before you knew it, it was the last day and you were up against Niiyama. Atsumu's team had arrived earlier in the week but were staying in a hotel further away so you couldn't exactly hang out outside of the gymnasium.
No matter what the outcome of the match, your team was seeded for the nationals along with the boys team. But still, you wanted to win this match no matter what.
It was difficult, they had a girl who was super tall, almost 6 feet. She was a wing spiker like you and playing her was challenging. You'd never had a match that hard and even though your team lost by one point you approached the girl after the match. "Hi! I'm y/n l/n, what's your name?" you asked her. She seemed shy off court, looking down at her feet. "Kanoka... Amani" she mumbled.
"You're amazing Kanoka-san! I'd love to practice with you sometime. If it isn't a bother, could I get your number? I'd like to be friends". Her eyes lit up and she smiled. "I'd like that too. You're amazing too y/n, honestly I think you're better than me".
You got her number before saying goodbye to all the friends you'd made there. Somewhere along the way you found out Kuroo had a thing for Kenma, though whether it was reciprocated was unknown. Before leaving you ushered Kuroo to the side. Placing your hand on his shoulder you gave him a thumbs up. "I believe in you! Win him over before the next time I see you". He grinned, doing the same to you. "Same with you and the germaphobe".
You returned home, receiving loads of praise from your mom and Kazuko on how well you did. Checking the girls volleyball website you found you were on the first page. The title read;
'Y/n l/n, a candidate for #1 Ace?'

'Y/n l/n back from America to show Japan her talents'
Reading the comments you found loads of support. 'She's super talented and pretty too! I'm rooting for her'. Of course, there were negative comments too like 'she seems so arrogant' and 'so what if she came from America? She doesn't seem all that amazing to me'. Still, you were finally getting recognised and that excited you.
After that weekend school and training resumed as normal and so did your friendship with Sakusa. Of course it was a good thing you weren't fighting but you couldn't help but want to move forward from the friend zone. He stayed over regularly and you did things together like watching anime, training and even going to the city every once in a while but it all felt very standard. You knew something had to happen for the relationship to progress but you didn't know how or what to do.
