When Sejun woke up, he was in a room that wasn't his own. A room that he immediately identified as Seungwoo's.
His head hurt, but more than that, his heart hurt.
He missed her. He missed her so much.
His heart dropped. He couldn't remember what happened last night. Had he left his letter? Had he picked up hers? He desperately started fishing through his pockets, tears streaming down his cheeks.
His hands were shaking when he finally found it. And then he held it to his heart, his fingers clutching it tightly. It felt like his life depended on it.
There was a knock at the door, followed by Seungwoo, who was carrying a tray of food. Breakfast food.
Oh no. "Did I," Sejun started to say, but he stopped when he heard how hoarse it was. He cleared his throat and continued. "I missed the outing yesterday, didn't I?"
"Yes, you did," Seungwoo said carefully, placing the tray on the bed.
"You missed it because of me, didn't you? Did anyone else?"
"Seungsik and I did, but don't worry," Seungwoo assured him. "There will be other outings. Don't worry about it. What's important right now is... how are you feeling?"
Sejun stared at the letter in his hands, the letter that he was kind of scared to open up and read. "I'm the same as always," he finally said after a moment.
"That's not true," Seungwoo insisted, sitting on the bed beside him. "The way you were yesterday... I've never seen you like that before. Really, what's wrong?"
"My parents still don't want me to be with her," Sejun sighed. "And because of that, her parents also disapprove. It's been forever, and I thought our parents would eventually realize how much we care about each other and just stop trying to keep us apart. But it isn't working, and I don't know what to do. And worse than that..." he trailed off, unable to put his deepest fear into words.
"What?" Seungwoo whispered gently.
"What if Miran doesn't like me anymore?" Sejun whispered back after a moment. "I know we exchange letters and all, and in the letters, it seems that she still likes me. But this is so hard. Maybe she'll get tired of it. Maybe she is tired of it. Tired of all the fighting. Maybe she just wants to move on. I'm scared Seungwoo," he said, looking up at his friend. He felt tears welling in his eyes. "I'm scared she's going to leave me, and then what am I going to do?"
Seungwoo took the tray of food and put it on the night table before reaching forward and giving Sejun a hug, patting his back comfortingly. It only served to make Sejun cry harder, his fears finally coming to the surface.
"You guys care about each other a lot," Seungwoo said softly. "That's obvious. You have to have faith that your love is strong enough, and that'll pull you through. I'm sure of it. Keep fighting, and I'm sure you guys will get to be together in the end."
Sejun nodded, leaning out of Seungwoo's embrace and wiping his tears with the back of his hand.
"I want to read the letter," Sejun whispered softly. "Do you mind leaving me alone for a bit?"
"Of course," Seungwoo said, getting up and leaving without another word.
Hesitantly, Sejun unfolded the paper.
His eyes immediately caught on the words at the bottom of the letter.
I love you. Always, I love you.
