He just wants to escape from the strict and sheltered life his father wants him to live. He wants to take risks, he wants to be free. As a tiny act of defiance, he buys a motorcycle (though he has to hide it at his friend's houses) and it's his favorite thing to go around riding it. He feels free when he does.
