"You know what you're going to do?" Seungwoo asked, for the fifth time.
Gayoung laughed. "Of course. It's not that hard, you know. All I have to do is ring the doorbell, ask for Miran, and things should go smoothly from there. Should I go now?"
He shook his head. "Wait for Chan to get here. It's getting dark..."
"Are you worried about us?" she asked teasingly.
"Obviously," Seungwoo said, ruffling her hair. "It's dangerous. That's why I'm sending Chan to protect you."
She shook her head at him playfully, but even though she was acting as though she didn't care... the gesture was sweet. Plus, he was right. It was dangerous. Honestly, she never really stayed out this late. It wasn't even that late, just a little past dusk. But still... she was always home by now. The only reason she felt safe right now was because Seungwoo was with her.
After a few minutes of waiting, they saw Chan walking towards Seungwoo's car.
Gayoung got out before he reached them.
"Hey there," he greeted, wearing that beautiful smile of his. Seriously, his smile was something else. It was doing things to her heart. "Seungwoo told me that you offered to help out with Miran and Sejun's situation. That was really sweet."
"I couldn't not do anything," she said softly. "He seems so sad."
"He is," Chan agreed. "So hopefully this works. It's about time those two lovebirds got back together."
"Can you... are you allowed to tell me why their parents keep stopping them?"
Chan shrugged. "It's nothing out of the ordinary. Sejun's parents are rich, so of course, they want him to date someone rich, someone at 'their level', you know? They opposed it from the beginning and made things really hard for Miran. At first, her parents were supportive, but after seeing all the pain she went through for him... it's only natural that they ended up disapproving as well."
"That's really awful," she whispered, following Chan's lead as he led the way to Miran's house.
"It is," he agreed, ringing the doorbell.
A man, presumably her father, answered. "Who are you?" he asked, looking at them curiously. "Are you the friends Miran is seeing today?"
As if on cue, a girl, Miran, came rushing towards the door.
"Gayoung!" she said excitedly, tackling her in a hug. It caught Gayoung by surprise, but she laughed and hugged Miran back.
"It's been a while," Miran continued, leaning out of the embrace. "We'll be back soon, okay Dad?" she said, turning to her Father.
He nodded. "Don't stay out too late. And make sure to answer your Mother's texts. You know how she worries," he said, voice almost teasing.
"I will," Miran promised, linking arms with Gayoung and Chan, leading them away from the house.
When they were out of sight of the house, Miran turned to Chan and gave him a big hug too. "It really has been a while," she whispered into his neck, half laughing. There were tears in her eyes, and Gayoung felt a twinge of pity for this girl. Miran's heartbroken expression was a mirror of Sejun's.
"And it's really nice to meet you," Miran said, turning back to Gayoung. "Seungwoo says this was your idea. Really, thank you so much."
"Of course," Gayoung said, smiling at her. "Now let's go get you to Sejun, hm? He's waiting."
Miran bounced on the balls of her feet, unable to bite back her giddy smile. "Let's go!"
