The girl, Gayoung, quickly picked up her things as soon as the teacher dismissed the class. She looked ready to bolt out the door.

It made Subin laugh.

She turned around to glare at him. "What are you laughing at?" she said, trying to sound annoyed. But he could see that she was trying to hide her smile.

"You, of course," he teased. "Why are you trying to run away so fast? I haven't even gotten your number yet," he complained, taking his phone out of his pocket and holding it out to her. "Please?"

"Why?"

Subin sighed. "Because I want to be your friend, dummy. Gosh. How are you going to become a lawyer if you can't even figure out this?"

"Who said I wanted to be a lawyer?" she said, frowning at him as she took his phone.

"You don't?"

"Just because I'm a political science major means I want to be a lawyer?" she asked, laughing at him. She shook her head playfully, handing him back his phone. "I want to be a journalist. A political journalist. I'm double majoring."

Subin narrowed his eyes at her, now uncertain as to whether or not he should have trusted her this easily. "A political journalist... Do you not know who I am?"

She looked at him quizzically. "No...? Should I?" she said, her forehead creasing in concern.

"No!" he said, quickly shaking his head.

"That no sounded very suspicious," she teased, walking out of the classroom with him. "Are you sure? What if you're a criminal or something?"

Subin pouted, holding onto her arm and stopping her. "Do I look like a criminal?"

"Hmm... I don't know," Gayoung said, pretending to examine his face.

"Criminals aren't cute like me, right?" he insisted, winking at her.

"Oh my," she said, raising her hands to her face and turning away. "That startled me."

"What, did I startle you with my charm?" he teased, bouncing up and down on his toes and trying to get her to make eye contact again. This was fun.

"I'm going to ignore you," she warned, not looking at him.

"You're joking, right?" he said, poking her shoulder as she walked.

Gayoung laughed. "Yes, of course, I am."

"What are you doing after school today? Can you meet me after school in the courtyard? Please? I want to introduce you to two of my friends. They also go to college here. I think you'll like them."

"How would you know if I'll like them?" she asked, laughing again. "You barely even know me."

"Because you like me, don't you?" he said excitedly, still bouncing around at her side. "So if you like me, then you'll like them too."

"I guess that is good reasoning," she said playfully. "I can't meet them today though," she said, looking at him sadly. "I planned on going job hunting."

"But I texted them about you already," he sighed, pouting at her.

"When? During class?" she asked, her voice taking on a scolding tone.

He averted eye contact. "Well... of course not."

"Sure," she said, shaking her head at him.

"Can I make you a deal?" he asked her, taking hold of her arm and turning her to face him.

"Depends. Tell me the terms."

"You meet my friends today, and I help you go job hunting tomorrow. Deal?!"

Gayoung held his gaze for a moment, and he put on the most hopeful expression that he possibly could. Hopefully, she thought he was cute and just agreed.

After a moment, she let out a sigh of defeat. "Fine!" she said, throwing her hands in the air dramatically. "Fine," she said again, laughing. "You win. But you better find me a good job tomorrow."

"I'll try my best," he promised, waving bye to her as he entered his building. "I have to go in here. I'll text you where to meet!" he said, waving once more before turning and running away.

Subin wasn't sure what made him reach out to her. He usually didn't. Always unsure of whether people would like him because of his father or because of who he is, he'd tended to stick to himself.

He wasn't sure what made him interact with her, but he was glad that he did.

Because he could already tell that they were going to get to be good friends.
