Chapter Twenty-Five: Mom

Gayoung hadn't wanted to leave Byungchan, not when he was so sad, but Subin had insisted that she should go. She had work, after all. 

So she'd left. After all, Byungchan had known Subin way longer than he'd known her and would probably be more comfortable sharing all his feelings with him. 

Her heart broke for him. He'd told the two of them that his and Chaewon's company basically forced them to pretend to be dating. They said it would be good for publicity: fans really wanted the two of them to date in real life. 

His company called the shots. They said it was a good idea, and so he was forced to go along with it. 

Her mood brightened a little when she entered the daycare and saw Seungsik already there, talking to Jieun. The two of them clearly had a special bond. Seungsik obviously adored her, and she was always talking to him about just about everything. Seungsik would make a great father one day, Gayoung was sure of it. 

"I don't think my mom liked the earrings you got," the little girl was telling him sadly. 

"Aww, I'm sure that's not true," Seungsik reassured her, ruffling her hair comfortingly. "Don't be sad." 

But he looked a little disappointed too.

It was the end of the day, and the parents were all coming to pick up their kids. 

And Gayoung was surprised when her new friend Yejin walked in and went straight to where Seungsik was playing blocks with Jieun. 

"Hi Mommy," Jieun said happily, though she barely looked up from her blocks. 

Gayoung tried to suppress the gasp of surprise that threatened to escape her. Yejin was... Jieun's mom? No wonder she didn't have time to study together. She had a child to raise. 

Yejin was glaring at Seungsik, and he awkwardly stood up. "Hello..." 

"Don't hello me," she snapped. "I have to talk to you. Now." 

Gayoung got the feeling this wasn't the first time they argued. She looked between the two of them, and then down at Jieun, who had a distressed look on her face. 

"Jieun, do you mind if I play blocks with you for a bit?" Gayoung asked, sitting beside the child as Seungsik followed Yejin out of the room.
