Heather
I'm so happy.
Nothing makes me happier than falling asleep next to Josh on the best of nights, but after sleeping together was a whole separate feeling. I'd been waiting for the right moment to really put it all out there and try with him again, and last night was perfect. We were in our own little bubble and when we sat in the hot tub, face-to-face, I knew what I wanted.
He was incredible with me, making sure I wasn't overwhelmed and that I was okay with everything we were doing together. It was everything I'd been missing and thinking about, it was him and I wrapped around each other for a night in bed.
Afterwards we just laid in the low light of the room, staring at each other. He played with the ends of my hair and I ran my thumb back and forth over his cheek. We didn't say anything for a long time, the first thing he said nearly melted my heart.
"I love you." He whispered and I smiled back feeling warm.
We didn't leave the bed for the rest of the night just laid in bed watching a movie. It was the first night in almost two months we'd slept completely naked. I realized then how much I missed being intimate, because it made me feel so much closer to him. It felt as close as two people could be and that was what I loved most.
For the lack of practice we'd had we certainly didn't seem to miss a beat. It was familiar and easy to find the rhythm after so long apart. I was mostly proud of myself that I hadn't been too freaked out or worried, I was finally over all of that and now we could really get back to ourselves.
I squint now, morning light is coming into the room and I reach around in bed trying to find Josh. But when I squint my eyes open I can tell he's not in it with me. I sit up and I realize I can smell pancakes cooking and I can hear Ella Fitzgerald music from the kitchen. I smile and slide out of bed, pulling on his flannel shirt from yesterday.
It smelled of cologne and I smiled thinking of him while I buttoned it up. I find a pair of underwear in my suitcase, pulling them up quickly and pulling my hair into a bun. I carefully slide the barn door over revealing a shirtless Josh cooking away at the stove in a pair of pyjama bottoms. He turns hearing the door open and smiles, walking over to me and picking me up.
"Good morning." He says quietly and I smile, wrapping my arms around the back of his neck. "Sleep well?"
"Incredibly well." I whisper and he nods giving me a quick kiss, before sitting me down on the kitchen counter. "You didn't have to do all the cooking." I tell him and he shrugs.
"I don't mind, I couldn't wake you up you looked too peaceful." He insists, giving the pancakes in the pan a flip. "So I let you sleep and I figured I could start this."
"Looks good." I remark and he smiles, setting down the spatula and getting a mug out of the cupboard.
"Coffee?" He asks and I nod.
"Please."
He pours it into the mug and passes it to me, getting the milk and sugar out. I move around slightly on the counter and then I press my lips together, feeling a dull ache work its way through my body. Not a bad ache.....just a memorable one.
"You can't be making faces like that." He warns and I laugh. "Too sexy."
"It is Valentine's Day." I remind him and he laughs with a nod. "This is the day to be sexy."
"Touché." He admits with a shrug. He quickly piles up the pancakes on a plate and sets them down on the small table. I hop off of the counter and grab cutlery for the two of us as well as two other plates.
