With Lily tucked into bed safe and sound and a tiring day behind the both of you, you and Rosie are getting ready to fall asleep in bed.

Your head rested on her chest as her fingers danced along your thigh as you drifted off to sleep.

But you jumped awake at the sound of glass shattering downstairs. Your mind immediately jumped to your five-year-old who was supposed to be sleeping safe and sound.

You wondered if she got up and was thirsty and maybe didn't want to disturb you and Rosé and attempted to do it herself.

Worried, you jumped out of bed and rushed out of the room, only to find Lily coming out of her room.

Her bunny was hugged to her chest as she knuckled her eyes sleepily. She was obviously just as startled by the loud sound as you and Rosie were.

"Mommy? What was that?"

Rosie shushed her softly and waved her over, her much bigger hand wrapping around Lily's tiny one as she held her close and looked at you with fear in her eyes.

You crept down the stairs and when you reached the last step you were met with a very tall man standing in front of you.

You felt terrified as soon as you saw him. He had a bag over his shoulder and a very large one at that. He clearly had the intention of robbing your home, unaware that your little family was there.

You locked eyes and felt a rush of fear come over you. You tried to run back up the stairs, but he grabbed your foot before you got the chance and you hit your head on one of the steps.

But even through the pounding in your head and the fear you felt, you were determined to keep Rosie and Lily safe.

You lied still for a moment and the man almost went to step over you to get to them. But you didn't let him. You grabbed his foot and he stared down at you, grinding his teeth with an evil look in his eyes.

"Don't you dare go after them! Rosie!" You called out and looked at your terrified girlfriend who was hugging your daughter close. "Take Lily to our room, lock the door, and call the police."

She was scared; scared for you and scared by the very sinister-looking man. But Lily was hugging her legs and crying into her pajama bottoms and she knew she had to keep her safe.

"Come on, honey," Rosé tugged at her hand and locked the door as soon as it was closed. She could hear the commotion coming from downstairs; glass breaking, the man raising his loud and scary voice, and the sound of your screams.

She stayed on the phone with the operator while sitting on the floor in front of the door, holding Lily tight.

"It's okay, Lily. Everything is gonna be alright." She soothed as the small girl cried against her chest. "I'm here. I've got you."

Suddenly, the screams coming from you stopped with a loud thud. She exhaled shakily, one hand on Lily's back and the other clutching her cell phone as she pleaded with the operator to hurry.

Her heart was pounding, her mind racing and all she could do was shed a few silent tears so Lily wouldn't notice.

Downstairs, you were unconscious. Your head hit the floor pretty hard, knocking you out. The man was relieved, though.

He thought he was in the clear to gather the rest of the expensive items downstairs and he could get out before the police arrived.

But the wail of the sirens proved him wrong. The cars pulled into the driveway and the man's bag hit the floor before he started running.

He tried to sneak out the back door but there were cops at every door, surrounding the house. They quickly cuffed him while others ran inside, a couple coming straight to you while a few ran up the stairs.

A knock at the door made Rosé and Lily jump. She was hesitant to turn the lock but when she heard the sound of static over his radio and the cops announced who they were and that they had the intruder taken out already, she opened the door with Lily hugging her legs once more.

They were led down the stairs and Rosie's heart almost burst out of her chest from fear when she noticed you were nowhere to be found.

She was about to ask them where you were when she was escorted outside and saw you in the back of the ambulance.

You weren't on a gurney, just had a blanket around your shoulders and some ice on your head while they continued to look you over.

Rosie and Lily ran to you, both of them running straight into your arms.

"You're okay! I'm so happy you're okay!" Rosie cried and held you tight.

"I'm okay."

"She just has a concussion." One of the medics assured.

"That's terrible, baby. But at least it's not worse than that."

You could only nod in agreement before you were bringing Lily onto your lap to hold her as she cried. Being so small, she was more terrified than the both of you.

You and Rosé soothed her as much as you could while they looked you over and asked you a couple of questions before you could finally go back into your home, safe and sound now.

But it didn't feel that way. You had to sidestep over the shattered glass and your belongings that were scattered across the floor that the man attempted to steal.

It felt weird and you checked the locks on the door again and again, and then again to try to bring yourself some peace of mind.

"Mommy?" Lily spoke quietly from the doorway, watching you and Rosie hold each other tight. "Wanna sleep here with you and Rosie." She mumbled as she knuckled her eyes once more, already growing tired but too scared to sleep alone.

"Of course, honey," you answered and made space for her to lay between you and Rosé. With her bunny and her blanket tucked to her chest and the both of you there to hold onto her, she drifted off to sleep, while you and Rosie stayed wide awake.

After spending some time stuck in your own head with your racing thoughts, you felt Rosie reach for your hand.

Her touch is always comforting, but even more so tonight. It calmed your fears and worries when you needed it to the most.

"We're okay." She whispered. "Everything is gonna be alright."

"I know." You nodded and let out a shaky breath. "I love you... both of you."

"Love you too, y/n."

Your hands stayed intertwined through the sleepless night; a comfort you both knew you'd be needing for the next few nights to follow.
