"Lily, honey? Are you hungry?" You yelled from in the kitchen.

In the living room, Lily was watching cartoons and playing with her toys.

It's a bit of a boring day so you're both trying to pass the hours until Rosie gets home and you all spend a little time together before you'd head to bed.

It's raining outside, which ruined your original plans for the day of taking Lily to the park and getting some lunch.

Lily didn't know that, so she wasn't disappointed, but you were, just a little.

"Yeah!" She yelled back before she giggled over the cartoons on tv, the infectious sound melting your heart.

As you looked around for a few minutes to make something for her, you heard the sound of little hurried footsteps and then a crash.

Immediately, you panicked.

"Uh oh," Lily said and you ran into the living room to check on her.

"Baby, what happened? Are you hurt?"

The sight of her sitting on the floor made you feel relieved.

But that didn't last long.

Because you realized what the crash had been.

Rosé's guitar.

Her custom-made, several thousand dollar guitar was now broken on the floor.

"How did this happen?" You asked as you sat beside her, grabbing the ruined guitar.

"I fell." She said. "I was just playing."

She was nervously toying with her fingers as you looked at her and you saw the worried look in her eyes.

"I'm sorry." She said as her lower lip trembled.

In her seven years of life, she's never once been bad or acted out.

Sure, she had her fair share of tantrums and time-outs.

But every kid does.

Lily was a great kid who would never go and break things that are important on purpose.

She knows that Rosie loves her guitar.

Lily is quite fascinated by her singing and her instruments and she knows she likes this guitar a lot.

Lily would never break it on purpose, not ever.

So you couldn't be upset with her when you know it was only an accident.

"I was just playing. I didn't mean to."

"Oh, sweetie. Come here." You said and pulled her into your arms. "It's okay. You're not in trouble. It was only an accident, right?"

She nodded quickly.

"That's what I thought. It's alright, baby."

"Is mom going to be mad at me?"

It always warms your heart when she refers to Rosé as mom.

"No, honey. She'll understand, don't worry."

You calmed her down and then offered to play with her toys with her for a few, knowing that she'd feel better.

But before you got the chance, the front door opened as Rosie walked inside.

"Rosie? What are you doing home so early?" You asked as you watched her kick off her shoes.

"We all finished everything that we had to and got to come home early." She said as she looked at you and Lily.

"How are my girls doing?" She asked and took a few steps before going wide-eyed at the sight of her broken guitar. "What the hell happened? Who broke my guitar!?"

"Go upstairs to your room, baby. It's okay." You told Lily and watched her slowly go up to her room.

"I'm waiting," Rosie said as she folded her arms. "Did Lily break it?"

"No. I did." You said, happily taking the blame for your daughter. "It was an accident. I'm sorry."

"How could you be so careless and irresponsible?" She yelled. "Do you know how much money I spent on this? Do you know how precious it is to me?"

"Yes, I know! It was only an accident, so quit yelling at me!"

Behind you, on the last step, Lily watched on and listened to you and Rosie argue.

Tears filled her eyes as she watched on.

She felt bad because, despite being a kid who broke things as kids do, you were the one getting yelled at for it.

"Mommy," she said as she rushed to you, tugging at your hand.

Rosie took a deep breath and tried to keep herself calm while Lily was there, both of you unaware that she'd heard everything already.

"Sweetie, go up to your room. We're just talking. Everything's fine." You said as you brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.

But she just sniffled and looked at Rosé before walking to her side.

"Don't yell at mommy."

"I'm sorry, honey. We're just having a disagreement, that's all."

"But mommy didn't do anything. I did."

Rosie looked down at Lily in surprise.

"You broke my guitar?"

Lily guiltily nodded her head.

"I didn't mean to. I was only playing."

Rosie sighed and knelt on the floor in front of her, looking at you and then Lily.

"I'm sorry."

"You didn't mean to break it, did you?"

"No." Lily quietly said. "I wouldn't."

"I know, sweetheart."

"But you're yelling at mommy. You should yell at me."

"No, honey, I'm not going to yell at you."

Lily's eyes got big as she looked at Rosie.

"You're not mad?"

"Not at all."

"At mommy?" She asked and then looked at you before Rosie did the same.

"No. I'm not mad at either of you. It was just an accident. I shouldn't have yelled. I just got upset and frustrated, but that doesn't change the fact that it was wrong to yell at her. I'm sorry."

"It's okay. I forgive you." You said and walked to your girls.

"I can get another one made, it's no big deal. So let's not feel bad or guilty any longer. Everything's fine. Let's put it all behind us." She said. "Can I have a hug from my girls? Who I love so much?"

You and Lily happily hugged her, giggling as she squeezed you both tightly.

"I love you." You told Rosie, kissing her lips softly.

"Love you mom," Lily said, kissing Rosie's cheek.

"I love you both, my babies. Everything's okay, so let's enjoy the rest of the day together. How should we start?"

"Movie!" Lily excitedly said.

"What movie?" You happily asked.

"Inside out!"

You and Rosie agreed to watch it with her, happy to have some time to spend together as a family now that everything was better and behind you.
