２．８ - ｃａｒｉｎｇ

haewon woke up with a big headache. groaning she sat up on what feel like a bed. strange, she didn't remember anything except the part where her father was beating her up. the smell in the room was familiar to her, but she couldn't put a finger on it.

rather confused than actually scared, she sat in the bed looking around trying to remember why it felt so familiar to be there. or rather why it felt so familiar, yet so distant. after a few minutes of her being lost in thoughts, someone entered the room.

"are you alright"

"yeah I'm fine-"

haewon's eyes widened. not being able to process who stood in front of her.

"mark?"

mark couldn't help but chuckle at haewon's confused facial expression. she looks so cute. wait what. mark shook his head. he still didn't know why he felt so weird around her, but for some reason all he wanted deep inside of him was to have haewon around him.

"mark where am I and what am I doing here?"

her voice brought him back to reality. 

"well currently you're in my room in the nct house"

"but why am I here?"

"don't you remember what happened?"

mark sounded really concerned but at that moment, he didn't even care. all he wanted was that haewon felt good again and that her bruises would start to heal.

"the last thing I remember was that I was talking with my dad and things got a little out of hand"

"just a little?? the fuck are you calling a little! haewon you goddamn fainted!"

mark was full of rage. he didn't know why haewon was so chill about the fact that her dad had beaten her till she saw nothing but black. she fainted, and only god knows what would have happened if mark wouldn't be there. because it didn't look like he wanted to stop anytime soon.

------ flash back -----

actually the only reason he knew that haewon was there, was chan. he knew what haewon's father was capable of and chan actually saw right through mark, he was the same as haewon. emotionless on the outside because of a big trauma they had experienced.

that's why chan trusted mark enough, knowing he would keep her safe. chan knew about the things going on and of course he knew about haechan, but he couldn't say anything nor follow them without being suspected, plus he knew mark just would be better to handle this situation.

as soon as haewon and her dad left to go into the room where mark found them later on, chan quickly went to mark, telling him that he should better follow them quietly in case something bad would happen. mark didn't know what chan was talking about yet, he complied not wanting anything happen to haewon. not that he would tell anyone that.

the room they chose of course was build good enough to not let any sound through the walls, for people they kidnapped or other activities they did down there. mark being smart enough he didn't let the door close completely. after their conversation he heard punches and painful cries coming out of the room, when he came into the room all he saw was mr min with blood stained knuckles and a bloody haewon, who looked weak at that moment, before she fainted in front if his eyes.

at that moment, something was triggered in mark, something that was boiling deep inside of him. all he saw at that moment was red, he didn't even care that mr min was their allies and that nct actually needed this bond to get to certain sources. all he could think about was haewon.

he attacked mr min and knocked him out after a few punches. right after that he ran to haewon quickly checking her pulse, sighing relieved when realizing she wasn't dead. after that he took her right to the nct house all 23 of them lived in and brought her in his room before treating her wounds.

now, mark was sitting on the edge of his bed, his eyes hold anger, yet concern. his emotions were a complete chaos and haewon saw all of them by looking in his eyes. she didn't know what was happening to her, but her heart suddenly started aching seeing mark being so concerned about her.

not really thinking about her actions, haewon stretched her arms out, cupping mark's face looking him directly in his eyes.

"I'm alright mark, I promise alright? thank you for taking care of me though"

after that, they stayed in this position for like a minute, looking each other in the eyes without saying anything. none of them wanting to actually end this moment. something inside mark wanted to pull her in and kiss her, beating himself up inside not knowing if he could do that, not wanting to push her into anything.

yet, fate didn't want them to have their moment. a voice coming from downstairs, separating them.

"mark, are you there?"

groaning, mark got up from his bed, now being in a bad mood since Johnny ruined his moment. 

"yeah I'm here what do you want"

"i have some files from taeyong for your next victim, this one is actually pretty important also for our bond with mr min and their company, come down and have a look at them"

"fine be down in a minute"

mark turned around facing haewon. the situation turned kind of awkward.

"well I'm going I guess if anything, the boys are downstairs or somewhere in their rooms, I will be back in a bit"

"fine with me"

with that mark left the room leaving haewon alone. haewon started to think about the moment she just shared with mark. it wasn't awkward, but felt so natural. he had this shimmer in his eyes which she kind of grew found of.

what is happening to me, not like mark will like me anyways I shouldn't keep my hopes up.

with that, haewon went back to bed, falling back asleep.
