Chapter 29: Not Home?

Chase's POV
"Mom, can I know what that was?" I asked my mom as I took a bite of bacon.

"What?" She confusingly asked.

"What happened yesterday when my friends were over," I stated.

"Oh, sorry," she apologized. "Did I not put enough marshmallows on the hot cocoa?"

"No," I stressed. "That's not what I'm talking about. The marshmallows were fine."

"Oh. Then what's wrong?" Okay, I have no idea if she knows what I'm talking about or if she's playing dumb.

"Yesterday you called Skye your future daughter-in-law."

"Oh. What's wrong with that?"

"She doesn't necessarily know I like her," I said as if it were obvious, which is.

"Isn't she going to find out eventually?"

"Yeah, especially if you're going around saying stuff like that. Just...please, don't do anything like that again."

"Okay, okay, fine," she laughed. "I won't. But she really is pretty," Mom walked out of the kitchen and made her way up the stairs. The last thing I need is for my mom to pull another stunt like that. I finished up my pancakes and ran upstairs to get my stuff. I picked up everything I needed and made my way to the front door.

"Don't tell anyone, especially Marshall," Jace reminded with order.

"Yeah, yeah, don't worry," I responded as I messed up his hair.

"Hey!" Jace complained.

"See ya!" I called out. "Bye!" I closed the door behind me and ran to Marshall's.

Skye's POV
"Yeah, just head out without me," Everest spoke through my phone.

"Ya sure?" I asked for the third time.

"Yeah. Dad says I have to go to school with Blizzard, 'cuz ya know, it's his first day. And he takes forever to get ready, so, see ya at school?"

"Okay, then. Bye, see ya." I hung up with Everest right before I opened the door. "Let's go!" I called.

"Coming!" Sunshine called as she struggled to go down the stairs. She held her book bag in one hand as she used the other to try and put her jacket on at the same time.

"Need help?" I offered. Sunshine nodded as she allowed me to help her put on her jacket. After that, she put her book bag on by herself as Storm made his way down the stairs.

"Ready," he informed.

"Great," I smiled. "Let's go." Storm and Sunshine patiently waited as I locked the door. We all walked to their bus stop and waited for the bus to arrive. Since Everest was going to be waiting for Blizzard, I might walk to school just with Rocky. The bus arrived as I sent a quick message to Rocky. After my siblings hopped on, I made my way to Rocky's house. No answer from Rocky yet. On the way there, I saw Zuma standing outside Ella's house.

"Ayo, Skye!" He shouted. I turned to look at him as I waved. He signaled me to wait, so I did. After about a minute, I left weird standing there alone. I looked both ways as I ran across the street to Zuma.

"Hey," I greeted as we fist-bumped.

"Where's Eve?" Zuma asked.

"Waiting for Blizzard. His first day, remember?"

"Oh. No, I completely forgot."

"Oh," I laughed.

"Oh, hey, Skye," Ella smiled with surprise as she got out of her house.

"Hey, Ella," I smiled back.

"Where's Everest? And Rocky?"

"Everest is waiting for Blizzard, and I'm on my way to Rocky's."

"Mind if we join?" Zuma offered.

"No, let's go," I agreed. As we walked, Zuma and Ella whispered to each other. Not sure what they were talking about, but they were whispering. I felt pretty isolated and irrelevant but whatever. I was able to see Rocky's house from a distance, and it looked pretty lonely. Abandoned. Not wrecked but alone. The three of us made our way up the stairs while I called Rocky.

"Is he answering?" Zuma asked.

"No," I responded. "The call took me to his voicemail." Zuma decided to ring the doorbell after a little while of waiting.

"Who is it!?" Rocky's dad yelled from inside.

"You won't know till you get up and check!" Rocky's mom yelled back at him. The fact we could hear them from out here is crazy. The door opened to reveal Rocky's mom. "Oh, you again," she said, looking at me.

"Good morning," I greeted as Ella waved and Zuma just lifted his head a little. "Is Rocky coming down?"

"Rocky?" She asked in disgust. "He isn't here."

"Not here?" Zuma asked. "He left for school already?" I was hoping for her answer to be yes, but unfortunately, it wasn't.

"Haven't seen him since the last time you and Everest came," she responded as she looked at me.

"Since last time? That was like, two, three days ago," I thought.

"Yeah, way to work your math," Rocky's dad chuckled sarcastically, making his way to the door. He has no idea what we've been through in the past days, so my days are completely mixed up. Oh, God. Today is Friday. The football team has a game and I have to cheer. I completely forgot. "Well, you three should scurry on and make your way to school. Bye." He slammed the door in our faces, leaving us worried and confused.

"Not home?" Ella asked. "We saw him yesterday. Where could he have gone?"

"No idea. We'll ask if he's at school," Zuma decided.

"And if he's not?"

Rocky's POV
"It's so empty," I said in shock. Even though I've been living in school, it's still weird seeing the halls empty. Rex, Tracker, and I roamed the halls ready for school. "Around what time do people start coming?"

"Like 7:30," Rex responded. "That's when people start coming for breakfast."

"Speaking of breakfast, tengo hambre," Tracker said as he rubbed his stomach.

"Well, then, to the cafeteria," Rex pointed.

"It's 7:25," I brought up. "Don't you think the lunch ladies'll ask how we got in?"

"No, we do this all the time," Rex shrugged.

"Oh, no," I said, stopping.

"Que?" Tracker asked as he stopped walking and looked back at me.

"I usually walk to school with Skye and Everest," I explained. "They're probably waiting for me. Or even worst, found out what's going on."

"Call them," Rex suggested. I nodded as I pulled out my phone. "Two messages and a missed call. They're gonna find out."
