The Other Alpha {Teen Wolf}

Chapter 3:

Biology was the only class Sage didn't have with her new friend Isaac. He spent all morning teaching her about social status and the popular people, the good teacher, and when Sage got her schedule, she wad disappointed to learnt that she was going to have to face Biology with the evil teacher and the popular people. Sage sat in the back of the classroom, trying to analyze the jock Isaac had told her was Jackson. He had a very strange scent, which she could tell was a wolf scent, but it was tainted almost, and it was almost familiar.

"Dude, you nose!" Jackson's friend said. Sage looked up and noticed that Jackson's nose was bleeding, but instead of bright red blood, it was a pasty black. Dread filled Sage's chest. Not that blood! Jackson jumped up from his chair and ran for the bathroom, and Sage make the quick decision that something serious was going on.

Sage got permission to use the bathroom just after Jackson left and she shot down the hallway, trying to be quiet in her heels.

She didn't see Derek standing in the boy's bathroom and she slammed face first into his shoulder. Sage collapsed on the floor and stared up at him. Jackson was with him and he stared down at Sage.

"What are you doing here?" He asked, annoyed.

"Trust me, I know what I'm doing." She said, and looked at Derek.

"If something's wrong, I need to know. You're with me now." Derek said.

"Just because you gave me 'the bite' doesn't mean I'm part of your little wolf pack. To be honest you don't show outstanding leadership qualities." Jackson said.

"That's true, but you two are bound by flesh and blood. You can't just back out" Sage butt in.

"And who the hell are you?" Jackson asked rudely.

She tried to ignore his comment and grabbed Jackson's chin and turned to her, where Jackson's ear was bleeding. A trickle of black blood dripped from his jawline to her hand. Sage could feel all the blood rush from her face. She didn't bother trying to calm down her heartbeat, because she knew that Derek could already hear it.

"His body's fighting the bite." Derek said.

"Why?"

"It's like an allergic reaction. Some are immune, some change, and some react." Sage said. Jackson fought against her grip, and she bared her fangs. "Hold still." She could smell the poison of the bite. Sage released Jackson and backed up.

Derek started to back away.

"What does it mean?" Jackson asked. Derek shook his head.

"Jackson, you can't tell anyone about this okay?"

"What does it mean? Jackson snarled.

"It means that the wolf in you is dying."

Derek grabbed Sage's arm and pinned her against the school's front doors. "What are you doing?"

"I'm taking you up on your offer. You obviously need some help with Jackson and I know what it is." Sage said. "There's no cure and my dad died from it."

Derek released her and Sage rubbed her arm.

"I thought you weren't into packs." He said. Sage could feel her cheeks flush up.

"Isaac is my friend. You're his alpha. You and I both know that packs are a package deal. It's better to help the whole pack than one beta." Sage said. "I'll help you as long as you don't turn me into the police."

"You don't want to go back?" Isaac said from down the hallway. Sage turned to him sadly.

"There's nothing to go back to. I was told to grab my bag and run. I know my family's dead. If I go back they'll put me in police custody and ship me off to some boarding school with my family's finances. It's not going to travel country wide, so I just need to get out of the state and start over." Sage said quietly.

"Derek? Why are you here?" He asked. Sage noticed that she couldn't smell the blood on him anymore. His bite must have healed.

"I'm just leaving." Derek said. He gave Isaac a stern look and quickly pushed his way out the door.

The bell rang, and Sage felt Isaac's hand on her shoulder.

"Are you okay?" He asked. Sage nodded.

"Just a few problems, but I'm going to be sticking around for a little while." Sage said, and she saw Isaac hide a smile.

"Alright, just I'll meet you in math and we'll try and get through the day."
