Chapter 15: Isaac

So apparently Fernando was a really young guy who owned the hotel. His eyes widned when Isaac told him that Sage was hurt. He seemed to like her a lot, because he started rummaging for bags of ice and made a cup of tea.

"What are you doing?" Isaac asked as Fernando dumped spoonfuls of sugar into a tea cup.

"Sage has a strange obsession with sweet mint tea." he said. Isaac stared at him.

"So how do you know Sage?" He asked awkwardly. Fernando unlocked Sage's room and she smiled gratefully, and stood up. Fernando shook his head.

"Sorry girlie. Sit." He ordered. Sage reluctantly sat down while Fernando examined her bruise and started treating it.

"What the hell did you even do?" Isaac asked. Sage's pale cheeks reddened.

"I was pushed off a roof." She said. Isaac blinked.

"It's just a couple of broken ribs, but it'll take a while to heal. I'd say no training tomorrow." Fernando said.

"How do you know each other?" Isaac asked again.

"Fernando practically raised me since I was a kid. He's a close friend of my mother." She said.

"Sage was the test subject for a born wolf. I was turned with her mother, and when we found out that she was the first born wolf of the Cynthia family, we didn't know how the hell it was going to turn out." Fernando said affectionately. Sage smiled and sipped her tea. Isaac sat next to her. He didn't know why, but it just felt right.

"That's the bonding of the pack right there." Fernando said. Sage smiled a little bit, holding the ice against her side.

"So, what knocked you off the roof?" Isaac asked.

"The kanima did. I just picked the lock on the window and the kanima burst through and pushed me off." Sage said. "The running and attacking made it a lot worse. I was slammed into a cement post." Sage said. Isaac realized that Fernando left the room, leaving just the two of them.

"Are you okay?" Isaac asked softly.

"What does that mean?"

"I'm asking are you okay. You seem very distraught sometimes and you're hurt, and it's hard to read you." He said.

Sage leaned back onto the pillows staring up at the ceiling.

"I try so hard." She whispered. "I just want you guys to survive. I lost my own pack and I don't know what would happen if I lost anyone else."

Sage grabbed an oversized t-shirt and put it on. She pulled back her comforters.

"Are you going to be okay walking home alone?" She asked. Isaac smiled.

"I think I might stay, you know, just to make sure that you're okay." He said. Sage laughed uneasily, and Isaac could tell that she was still a little shaken up.

Isaac laid down next to her. He couldn't help but look at her.

"Do you think that we are ever going to catch him? Jackson I mean?" Isaac asked. Sage nodded.

"Yes, but I have no idea what it's going to cost." Sage whispered.

Sunlight was streaming through the windows when Isaac woke up, his face buried in blankets.

"Are you serious?" Sage asked, to no one in particular. Isaac looked at Sage and they started laughing. The whole ordeal was just ridiculous.

"Are you feeling better?" Isaac asked. Sage pulled up her shirt, and the bruise wasn't gone yet, but it was less angry looking, just a purple streak.

"It healing." She said.

"Do you have work?" Isaac asked.

"Fernando gives me off when I get hurt." She said with a grin. She got up and changed quickly, grabbing a coat, and Isaac followed.

Sage pulled open the door to Derek's subway station and winced.

"Grr, I'm still not healing internally." She muttered, holding her side.

Derek was livid. He glared at the both of them.

"Where the hell were you two!" He yelled. Sage was startled a little bit.

"I've been under medical care for the past couple hours!" She said. Isaac heard Sage's heartbeat rise. "Derek." She said. "What happened?"

"They saw us!" Derek shouted. Sage took a step back, maybe in fear.

"What do you mean the saw us?"

"Argent saw us under the bridge! He knows we're still alive and they're going to come after us!"
