Well, at least Derek didn't think she was crazy, because Erica came in dragging Jackson. Sage was perched on a stack of boxes next to Derek, but she didn't realize how intimidating they looked together. Two powerful alphas, they looked down at Jackson.
"What happened to you on te night of the full moon?" Derek asked, staring down at a shard of glass that Sage had retrived from the pool. It was dipped in the Kanima's poison, which was apparently paralyzing, but Sage couldn't figure out why she hadn't been paralyzed like Derek had. Jackson stared up at them mencaingly.
"Nothing! Nothing happened!" Jackson cried defensively.
"You're lying." Derek said. Sage watched quietly, observing Jackson's face of panic. He was telling the truth, but something was off. He was freaking out so much that could have come across as fear. Sage glanced at Derek as he stared Jackson down. Derek handed Sage the shard as he put his gloves on.
"Wait!" Jackson said. "I can prove it. I taped myself." He said. Sage cocked an eyebrow at him.
"You taped yourself?" Isaac asked. Jackson staretd yelling at Isaac, nearly trembling with anger. "You want proof, let me get the video."
"No, no." Derek said, and Sage handed him back the glass. "I have a better idea." He said. Sage looked at the two betas.
"Put him down." She said flatly, and made eye contact with Isaac. Her mind was still frazzled from the ememory of actually sleeping with him, or the fact that it was actually calming not to be alone. She knew Isaac could tell that Sage wasn't totally comfortable with this going on, but it was the only way. Besides, the poison wouldn't kill him.
"You've always been a snake Jackson." Derek said, figering the poisonus shard. "And everyone knows a snake can't be poisoned but it's own venom." He said. Sage watches as a tiny drop of goo dripped into Jackson's mouth and he collapsed to the floor.
Sage glanced at Derek, who just sighed with frustration. It wasn't him! Sage wanted to punch a wall. She was just so frustrated that she was so confident with it being him and he wasn't.
Sage followed Derek in his subway car.
"So now what?" She asked. Derek shook his head in frustration.
"I have no idea." Derek said.
"Is there anyone else who was bitten that you know of?" Erica asked hopefully. Derek shook his head, and then stopped.
"Lydia." He murmered.
"Lydia Martin?" Isaac asked, he had a grin on his face, but Sage couldn't figure out what it was for.
"She was bitten by my Uncle a few months ago. I know she went missing a couple of weeks ago, but no loss of control." Derek said. His eyes met Sage's and their trains of thought connected.
"I better get to school then." Sage said.
What the hell? Sage wondered as she saw Stiles running down the school hallways, only to see him slam into an open door and fall to the floor. Sage stood over him.
"Um, are you okay?" She asked, hiding a smile. Stiles stared up at her, and nodded. Sage grabbed his arm and helped him up. She followed Stiles as he tried to be more careful, yet trying to make the smae speed as before as he raced down the hallways. Sage got to class to see him whispering to Scott, and someone sitting in front of him. Sage could feel her face light up.
"Isaac!" She hissed, grinning like an idiot. "What are you doing here?!" She asked. Isaac smiled at her.
"I'm no longer a suspect." He said. Sage couldn't stop grinning. It was stupid, but it felt better to have a close friend at school with her.
Sage spotted Erica through the crowd and ran to catch up with her. "Erica!"
"Chemistry?" Sage asked. She asked. Erica nodded.
"They messed up my schedule so now we all have chemistry!" Isaac announced. Sage nodded.
"Good. I'm going to meet Derek right before class to get the poison."
"Why can't we just kill her. It has to be her." Isaac argued. Sage glared at him, silencing him.
"It's not my logic. We have to test her first. I have seen bloodthristy people who slaughter innocents without skipping a beat and I am detemrined to not make you two one of them." Sage said, shuddering at a memory.
The bell rang and Sage sat next to Isaac, listening Coach ramble on how hard his exam was going to be. Honestly, Sage wasn't that worried, she'd been taught pretty well by her mother.
"Are you nervous?" Isaac asked quietly. Sage shook her head. "Wait, you're not some sort of genius or something." Sage could feel her cheeks flush.
"I'm sorry, I just blanked out!" Sage said quietly. He stared down at her, ripping up her copy of the test.
"Just because you don't go to school doesn't mean that you can slack off. You are a genius! This is shameful work!" He yelled. Sage's mother peered through the door, her face grim. She snarled at him.
"Leave her alone." She growled. He stared at her, and threw the test away.
"Sage?" Isaac asked. Sage blinked her way out of the daydream and released her knuckles, which were white against the desk. They ached with the memory.
"No!" She said. "Besides, it's better to have a balence of smart and muscle. That's what I'm trying to teach you." She said.
"So, you are a genius." Issac said. "Like Lydia."
"I don't think like Lydia, besides. She freaks me out a little bit." Sage said. She nodded toward Lydia, who seemd to be writing something on the board, but it wasn't Englsh. She suddendly burst into tears and nearly screamed.
"What is that?" Isaac asked. Sage shook her head.
"I have know idea, but we'll find out soon if she's what we're looking for."
