Yeah, this was never going to work. Sage stared at the house in front of them.

"Oookaay." She said slowly, wringing her necklace. "How is this going to work. We've basically corralled them into a confined space so they could protect Lydia."

Derek stared into the house, where Allison was peeking out the window.

"Can we sneak through the back?" Isaac asked. Derek nodded, and Sage could see the thoughts formulating in his brain.

"I can go through the top window." Sage replied. Derek nodded his head, sending the two werewolves off.

______

"Hey, are you sure that you can do this?" Isaac asked Sage as she took off her high heels, getting ready to climb through the bathroom window. Sage nodded briskly.

"I've done it before." She said.

All the color drained from her mother's face as Sage heard the door break down. Sage's sisters' screams were cut off suddendly by the sound of gunshots.

Sage's world seemed to start spinning and breaking down.

"NO!" She screamed. Her mother grabbed her arm, her clawed hands digging into her flesh as she dragged her up the stairs into the attic. Sage's body was racking with sobs. It couldn't be. Her sisters were just playing around downstairs while Sage and her mother were doing laundry. They couldn't be dead. They just couldn't be.

Sage's mother handed her the emergency bag with clothes, food, and money. Sage's clumsy fingers strapped it on, and was engulfed in a swallowing hug.

"Go to Fernandos. He'll take you in."

"You have to come with me!" Sage pleaded, but she knew it was no use. Sage looked up at her mother, and she understood.

"Sage." Her mother said, taking her face in her hands. "You're an Alpha now. You are a beautiful young woman and I have faith that you will find a pack or start your own, but you have to make it and you mustn't give up on me." She said. Sage stared at her mother, and she knew that it was going to be the last time she'd ever see her. She had dazzling blue eyes had never faded over the years, and her chocolate brown hair was windswept and youthful, and Sage was glad that she had inherited that trait from her. She wrapped her arms around her and opened the window. She would have to be strong, for her.

Sage's mother smiled proudly, mouthing I Love You. When someone banged on the door, and Sage launched herself out of the window, plummeted to the ground, and started running.

"Are you sure?" Isaac asked.

"Yes, now give me a boost." Sage said, and used Isaac's hand as a springboard and leapt onto the roof with grace, and Isaac pushed open the back door. Sage heard him start to fight against someone downstairs while she started picking the lock on the window.

It took a lot longer than Sage had hoped for the window to open, using her claw to humainly get rid of the screen and pick the lock.

Finally, after what felt like an hour, Sage slid open the window, and was going to climb in, but the Kanima came shooting out of the window, throwing Sage off the roof. Sage hit the ground right on her side, and she could feel the bones breaking inside of her. The pain was so overwhelming that Sage must have breifly blacked out from the pain because the next thing she knew was that Lydia was staring at her through the window.

Her entire chest ached. She must have broken several ribs, because it was literally impossible to breathe. Sage's mind started racing around the pain and she realized the kanima wasn't Lydia.

It was Jackson. Sage turned to stand up, but moaned as a rush of red passed over her. She pushed herself onto her feet and scrambled around the house to find everyone but Lydia and Jackson. Isaac and Erica lay unconscious on the ground, and Derek's face was a sign that he wasn't to be messed with.

"It's not..." Sage began before Lydia burst through the door.

"Will someone please tell me what the hell is going on!" She cried. Derek's expression changed to surprise, then returned to his scowl. Sage focused on breathing as Boyd hauled Erica and Isaac into Derek's car.

Sage caught sight of the kanima running down the road, and Derek tore after it. Sage sprinted down after him, catching up to him in a matter of seconds. Sage's entire body screamed with pain, but she was so close to the kanima. She finally managed to tackle it under a cement bridge, but it was ready. The kanima picked her up and slammed her against the pillar. Sage couldn't hold back a cry of pain as she felt more ribs brake. There was a haze of black over Sage's vision as her breathing slowed. She felt something grip her arm, and she was moving. She was standing behind a pillar, next to Derek. Gunshots echoed in her head. Was this a hallucination? No, they sounded too real.

After a while, everything went quiet. Sage leaned against the pillar (which she didn't realize was Derek) for stability. She would have to go back home and Fernando would help her. Sage followed Derek back to his car. Erica and Isaac were waiting.

Isaac was awake, and was immediately concerned with Sage's well being. She made sure that he wouldn't touch her skin and take some of her pain.

"I don't need a ride, I only live a couple blocks away from Sage." Isaac said. When Derek drove away, Isaac stared at her.

"I'm okay. Don't ask. I just need ice." Sage grumbled. Isaac shook his head.

"You definitely hurt yourself." He said. Sage started walking, and each step was a step of pain.

Sage burst into her room and doubled over. She didn't realize that Isaac had followed her in.

Sage took off her shirt, revealing a long fat bruise that reached from her breast to her waistline. Isaac's eyes swelled in panic.

"Oh my God!" He said. Sage stared at herself in the mirror.

"Isaac. Go downstairs into the kitchen and ask for Fernando." Sage ordered. She put so much force into her words that Isaac obeyed.
