Isaac could hear music coming from Sage's room as he knocked on the door.

"Just a minute!" Sage called from inside and the music shut off. She opened the door in her pajamas, drying her hair with a towel. She almost dropped her towel when she saw Isaac.

"What are you doing here?" She asked. Isaac faltered a little bit. Sage smiled and gestured inside.

"I was just asking if you were okay. It seemed that you took a heard fall when Derek said the both of you almost drowned." Isaac said. Sage smiled a tiny bit, and threw the towel in her closet.

"Well, considering that it was likely the most impulsive thing I've ever done, I think I'm okay." Sage said. Isaac noded uncomfortably, but the words flew out of his mouth before he could control them.

"How do you do it?" He asked. Sage froze for a second, and looked at him. He didn't need to explain any more, she understood.

"I barely make it by." She whispered. "It's a burden that I had to run instead of fighting back for the sake of my family. Why? Do you miss your dad?" Isaac nodded a tiny bit.

"It's hard to explain, but I do." He said.

"It feels like think that you shouldn't, because they were so horrible to you, but nothing can make up the presence of family." Sage responded. Isaac felt a hole in his heart throb a little bit. He stared down at her, and Sage's grey eyes were clouded with a recognizable pain.

"How did you..."

"You and I are a lot more alike than you think we are." Sage said quietly. She flopped down on her bed, and Isaac sat next to her. She stared at the ceiling. Right then, they had some sort of connection. They were two kids without families, trying to act like it was no big deal. "My dad died when I was thirteen, because his body fought the bite until it killed him."

"Who bit him?"

"I did." Sage whispered. "He was always abusive, he was the only one in my family who was human. He hated my sisters and I, and when he realized that I was an alpha, capable of giving a bite, he forced me against my will to bite me. It was scarring, and I swore to myself that I would never do it again."

Isaac stood there for a moment, trying to wonder him biting someone at thirteen.

"I guess being in a pack, next to Derek is forcing open all those memories i shut down years ago." She murmured. Her eyes were shut, but Isaac knew that face. It's the kind of face you use to mask the tears.

"You two seem to balance each other out." Isaac said. Sage laughed a little. She had a really pretty laugh, it was quiet, but nice.

"Barely. I'm guessing that Derek's family has been dead for along time, because we don't have the same views on having a pack. I can be a little more possessive, since I've just lost them, but he's used to losing what he wants and willing to adjust." She said. Isaac laid down next to her, and she smiled. "He has the power, and I have experience on leading. Of course my mom helped me, but I know a couple things." She said.

They sat through a long silence, and Isaac looked at her.

"Everyone is so isolated, it's hard to trust anyone." Isaac said.

"So that's why you act so tough?" Sage asked. Isaac looked at her and she nodded. "You act all bad-boy because you don't know who to trust. It's only natural to keep yourself guarded until you get to know them." Sage said. "Either that or Derek is just too intimidating."

Isaac laughed-a more casual laugh that he hadn't done for a while. "Does that go for you too?" Sage nodded curtly. "Well, what are you really like?" Sage sucked in a breath.

"Well, I was a homeschooled kid who came from a big family. I'm pretty sure when I wasn't working on schoolwork I was either pretending to love my father while helping him in his machine shop, or dancing." She said. "I loved my sisters more than life itself." Sage added. Isaac stared at her. There was so much that he didn't know about her. "What about you?"

"I had an older brother, but he went to war and died. My mom about a year ago so I joined the lacrosse team." He said. Sage's face made him laugh again.

"You're not very good at this." She said. The last thing that Isaac could remember was Sage's big grey eyes and her brown hair falling aross her face.

----------------------------

Isaac woke up to the sound of an alarm clock beeping. Just as he was opening his eyes, something whacked him in the head. He stared wide-eyed a Sage, whose face was a few inches away from his. She stared at him for a minute, and he stared at her. It finally dawned on him that he was still in her hotel room.

"What are you doing here?" She asked frantically getting out of bed. Isaac jumped up.

"I don't know! I guess we just fell asleep!" He replied. Sage started grabbing clothes from the closet and ran into the bathroom.

"Stay there." She ordered, before slamming the door. She came out a few minutes later, putting on lipstick, looking like a waitress.

"What are you wearing?" He asked. "And why is it five in the morning?"

"Do you think that I get a room, food, and clothes for free? My mom's freind agreed to help me out if I worked early mornings in the kitchen and waiting. Besides the customers tip the best early. You should go back to Derek's." She said. Isaac waved her off.

"That's okay, I'm curious to see you being a waitress." He said. Sage stared at him for a moment, then put on some high heels and dragged Isaac down the hallway. Isaac wathed as she slung her bag in the kitchen and hurried to a couple comming down the hallway.

"Do you want anything to eat while we're here?" She asked. Isaac could tell that her mind was still buzzing by the fact that they had slept together, but she held up nicely.

Isaac munched happily on his toast, while watching Sage pace back and forth with food and checks Something about her was off, She seemed to be formulating some kind of though inside her head, because sometimes she would stop, mutter something to herself, and then continue. After a couple hours, she got her bag. Something clicked in her eyes. She grabbed Isaac's hand and waved good-bye to the chef, and dragged Isaac back outside.

"What if it's Jackson?" She asked. Isaac stared at her blankly. "Don't look at me like I'm crazy! From what I know of, I don't think he lost control on the full moon, or he'd comming running for help. Derek said that he doesn't know who he is, so maybe he can't remember!" She cried.

"We have to tell Derek."
