A huge crash in the stairwell scared Sage half to death. She whipped around just to see someone being crashing to the floor in a heap. She turned the corner and saw Derek standing there, rage clearly there on his face, and she was about to ask him what the hell was going on, but the stranger on the floor grabbed her ankle. when she looked down, she realized that it was the same stranger she had seen the night of the full moon.
Sage's reaction was not her finest moment. She screamed at the top of her lungs and immediately shoved her foot into the face of whoever was on the floor. It was also the day when she had decided to wear heels. So basically, Sage was nearly dying of the shock, and the stranger was nearly dying of a footprint in his face.
After a couple of crude words, and a few skips of a heartbeat, everything settled down. The stranger stood up, rubbing his head, which was still a little red.
"So Derek, who's your friend?" He asked. For once, Derek actually looked a little pleased.
"Derek?" Sage asked. "Is this something I need to know right now?" She ran a couple of fingers through her hair, waiting for the aftershock to leave her.
"Not exactly." Derek responded.
"Alright." She said, turning towards the door. "I'm going to go home." She stated, exasperated. She really needed to catch up on her sleep, because right now, she was pretty sure that she was going to fall over.
As she was leaving her room for the game, a terrible thought struck her. Erica, Boyd, and Isaac were leaving. They were all going to leave. That left only Derek, Sage, and Scott to fight off the Kanima.
A deep pit opened in her gut. She had failed. Again. The thought made her already want to scream. God, she had tried so hard! She tried to replicate everything that her mother had taught her. She didn't think that all of the pressure would make them want to leave. Sure it made her lose sleep, and make her feel like she was kinda crazy, but she could never leave, not now.
I am going to lose so many people. She thought. She was going to lose Boyd. She was going to lose Erica. She was going to lose Isaac.
A small part of her was upset with the thought that Isaac was leaving. Over the past week, when she realized that he wasn't going to be there for late night calls, or to just talk to, Sage distanced herself from him, hoping that it would ease the pain. She did this with the other betas too, but for some reason, Isaac's absence stung.
Focus. She silently chided. I have more important thing to do. Sage pushed all of those thoughts from her mind as she walked down the dark street to an all familiar place - Derek's house.
The door creaked open as she crept into the dark house, only to find Derek and the stranger.
The Stranger looked at her.
"Hello again." He said. Sage looked at Derek.
"Who is this guy?!"
"Sage," Derek started.
"I'll introduce myself personally." The stranger said, he held out a hand, which Sage realized was bloody. She saw blood on Derek's knuckles too, and quickly made the connection. This guy was bad news.
Sage didn't take his hand, and only stared him down, trying to make her small form look intimidating.
"Peter Hale." The stranger said.
"Hale?" Sage asked. "Derek, you told me that your family was dead."
"He survived. That's how I got my alpha ability." Derek said, as if he wasn't exactly proud of his actions. His tone made Sage a little more on-edge than normal. "Have they all gone?"
