She is Your Humanity: Chapter 7

I'm covered in blood, running. Running through this hallway filled with doors, flowing white curtains and the hallway adorned with candles. I can hear someone screaming and I'm... I'm chasing them. In front of me a girl in a long white dress with long brown hair. She turns to me and I can see Hayley's face so clearly. She gets to this red door at the end of the hallway and bangs on the door, looking back towards me as she does. When I finally catch up to her, I grab her by her arm and turn her towards me. The face I no longer see as Hayley has now changed into someone else. Katherine. No, not Katherine. It's Tatia. I grab her by the neck and bend it to the side. I lower my head to her throat and sink my teeth in, she yells out in pain and that's when I wake up. I look up to see chains around my hands as I try to break free my mother says something. 

"Having dreams?" She asks tauntingly 

I lunge at her but the chains pull me back and she moves closer to me. 

"Tell me Elijah, who was the face that you saw. Hayley? Or perhaps the woman you once loved, Tatia." 

"Stop playing tricks on me, Esther!" I spit at her 

"I assure you, dear son, that there are no tricks here. Are you ready to hear about what you did to poor Tatia?" She asks 

"I did nothing but love that woman until the day that you took her from us." 

"That's what you think, Elijah. By the end of the day you'll want to accept my offer. Believe me." She from me

"And what is that, mother?" 

"I'm going to clear you of this whole ordeal of being a vampire. Everything you've done, everyone you've hurt, and everyone you've killed, gone. I want to put you into the body of a witch so you can be free from everything horrible that you have ever done. Let's start now." 

A Thousand Years Ago 

I'm watching as she dances around in a circle with him. The music of the natives drumming and singing. I watch as they both take off their masks and he goes to kiss her. My brother and his girlfriend, the girl I love. Tatia Petrova. I can tell by her body language that she doesn't want to kiss him but she does anyway. I can't watch anymore so I turn away, cursing myself for the jealousy racing through my body. For a few minutes, I find myself looking over the pigs as they eat and gargle their food. I'm taken out of my focus when I see Tatia walking up to me out of the corner of my eye.

"Are you hoping to save Loki the pig from his fate?" She giggles 

"Oh no, the fate of Loki is to be food. Just as you are fated to love another." 

"And you? Fated to watch from the shadows, a noble martyr? Fate does not dictate me, Elijah. I was fated to throw myself on a pyre after my husband died in battle, but I did not. I chose to live. And I chose to give my heart to someone once more... to someone strong... protective, fierce, and yet noble... and gentle. I choose you, Elijah."

Tatia places her hand on my cheek as she smiles at me. I slowly move in to kiss her and she backs away. 

"Are we to have our first kiss where your mother slaughters the pigs?" She laughs 

I laugh with her at the joke and I feel an overwhelming feeling of warmth. I grab her cheek and pull her into me and I place a kiss on her lips, her soft, soft lips. 

                                                                                                          ... 

"That was only the beginning, a moment of happiness. It's too bad about her tragic ending." He stalks towards me 

"The tragic ending that you gave her when you drained her of blood. To suppress Niklaus's werewolf side, if I recall." 

"You recall wrong, my dear son. What an awful thing, drinking the blood of humans to survive. Your father and I are to blame, we cursed you to be these... monsters. You killed Tatia, Elijah."

"I did not hurt Tatia. I couldn't have." I launch at her once more, the chains holding me back

"If you don't want to believe me at least believe her."  Esther turns her head towards the empty doorway 

"Katherine, you can bring her in now!"She shouts in that direction 

I watch as both Katerina and Tatia enter the room as they stand next to Esther. Katerina's face is covered in shock as she looks over my bloodied clothes. 

"You said you wouldn't hurt him." She scowls at mother 

"You can leave now, Katherine." Esther demands 

Katerina looks between my mother and me before she crosses her arms across her chest. 

"I'm not leaving him alone with your crazy ass and when you're done with whatever your twisted plan is, I'm taking him out of here." 

Esther does not protest but turns to Tatia and urges her to say something. Tatia doesn't look at me for a moment and I can hear her heartbeat racing in her chest.

"Elijah, I thought that you knew. I'm so sorry you had to find out this way." She mutters 

"Speak up, girl." 

"It's true what Esther is saying. I found you and Klaus, talking. The bodies, Niklaus covered in blood, I ran. You chased after me, I fell and cut my hand. You couldn't control yourself, Elijah." She starts 

"No! I refuse to believe you." 

"You told me to run, you wanted me to get away but the bloodlust took over. Elijah, listen to me." 

Tatia walks up to me and places her hand on my cheek and memory goes flashing through me. Tatia is running away and I'm chasing her. She falls, cuts her hand, and my eyes become the eyes I've known for a thousand years. 

"I don't want to kill you." I say 

She starts backing away but I keep getting closer to her. She draws back her injured hand and slaps me. I fall to the ground and now I really can't stop myself, but I tell her to run. When she does the sudden urge to feed overwhelms me and I chase after her. I grab her and sink my teeth into her neck and I can feel the warm liquid running down my throat. She screams out in pain and all of a sudden the memory ends.

"Wait, what happened?!" I shout at my mother 

"The memory ended, just as my life did that morning." 

I look deep into her eyes and I can see her eyes feeling with tears. She rubs her thumb along my cheek for a moment as I close my eyes. 

"I'm so sorry, Tatia. I didn't mean to." I whisper 

"Shh, it's okay. You weren't in control, I know that now. I forgive you, Elijah. I forgive you." 

I finally open my eyes and stare back into hers and I see the forgiveness and I know that she's telling the truth. She gives me a small smile and shakes her head. I give her a nod back as I look over to Katerina. 

Esther looks between us and then moves to Katerina. She grabs her by the chin and makes her stare into her eyes. 

"Katherine... you're here for one reason, to kill Niklaus. Let's not get distracted." 

Katerina goes to leave before she turns back to me, a sad look covering her face. 

"I'm sorry." She mouths 

"It's okay, Katerina. I love you." I say to her before I pass out
