AdaOn her way back, she felt light.
Ada really hoped she would see James again. There was something comforting in his smile. Ada felt like they had a mutual understanding of the world.
When Ada rounded the corner that led to her room, she saw Nora standing beside her door, looking impatient and worried. "Where were you?"
"Out." She said without looking at her, and opened the door.
"Ada..."
Ada whipped around before she could touch her. "Do me a favour and next time don't throw your fucking boyfriend at me because I will throw him right back with a broken neck and honestly, I don't like your taste in men. It's pretty shitty, just like yourself."
Nora looked perplexed. "How did you find out?"
"Our walls are paper thin." Ada said with a straight face.
Nora at least had the decency to look ashamed. "Ada I'm really sorry. You weren't supposed to know. It wasn't the best choice to make but I just wanted to do something for you, to make you feel better, you've been so sad lately. Besides, it's not like Benny doesen't really like you..."
"You have some nerve to try to justify what you did."
"Ada please. I don't want to fight over nothing..."
"This isn't nothing." Ada pointed her index finger at her chest. "you brought this on yourself. I'm tired of listening to your petty excuses. I don't need your fucking charity. You hear me?"
Nora took her arm gently. "Hey little sister, come on now. I already apologized. And it wasn't charity..."
"Of course it was." Ada pushed her back forcefully.
She stumbled a bit, looking enraged. Good. Let her feel some of what Ada was feeling.
"So you want to fight? Ok, let's fight." Nora brought up her fists.
Ada snorted. "I have better things to do."
"Fine. Don't hit me but do something."
Ada clicked her tongue. "Just keep your slutty boyfriend to yourself."
"Ada..." She started again.
"He's lucky his cock is still intact. Not that it was much to begin with. Make sure you tell him that. Oh and he owns me a lacy green bra. Tell him that as well. And it better have good quality, unlike the two of you."
Nora pressed her lips together. "Look, I made a mistake. I know that. But we gotta stick together and move on. We're family..."
Ada grabbed the knob so hard her fingers hurt. "It's better not to have a family at all than to be stuck with this one."
"You don't mean that." She looked hurt.
"I do. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to bathe in acid and wash off the stink of your boyfriend off my skin." She shot the door on her sister's pleading face.
Nora knocked a few more times. Ada ignored it. Her futile attempts were followed by more excuses. Ada ignored that too. It was time to give her a dose of her own medicine. See how she liked it.
Ada put on Monster by skillet, and turned the volume up to drown out her sister's voice. Then she fell on her bed face first, groaning in frustration.
Ada thought she had handled the situation good enough, but her Father, the real problem, was still there. As unsolvable as ever.
She wished she could be like James. He seemed so free of obligations.
Taking out a bottle of blood from her night stand drawer, Ada gaulped it down hungrily. She snuggled between the soft pillows on her bed, and as she drank, her mind went back to a year ago, when all of them had been happy, at least happier than they were now.
Ada was twenty two back then. Just out of university, struggling to start living again after losing her girlfriend, but it was ruined because of her father.
