It was halloween.

The girl had sneaked out to watch the costumes. And eat enough candy to fill the hole that had opened up in her heart.

The girl saw a lot of beautiful people that night. Some of them she kissed, some she smiled at, some wanted to chase her home. But the girl was good at running.

She found a beautiful boy when she stopped to get cotton candy. He was sitting on a bench, sucking on a blue lollipop. He had a charming smile. The girl sat beside him.

They didn't share the snacks but they shared words and laughter.

Maybe the girl was less sad and lonely that night.
